Thanks Gajan, Black is my favorite color so here's => ⬛. I was on the fence to go all out migrating into Leica SL system. Having spent times with Canon, Sony and currently Panasonic, your insights has clarified the things that troubles me for choosing this SL2S over Sony A9iii which was my No.1 candidate for my next camera. There's something special about that Leica color and ambience, and the fact that I can be comfortable shooting my videos over ISO12800 (I never shoot over ISO2500 on my current Panasonic GH systems), is icing on the cake for me. I need that organic balance of color of which I struggled a lot when I was on Sony systems (they tend to be too clinical). Or the reddish Canon hue. I think you understand what I mean here. Cheers.
05:32 "This is not a competitor to the 50 summilux" Both are 50 mm 1.4 close focus leica M mount lenses... What's stupid about that argument/harmful to the imaging space? Thypoch sent you a lens they were confident in and you didn't give them a fair shake.
Even the M240 series had great battery life. I used my M246 all yesterday, and I still have 90% battery left. But I only use the optical viewfinder, not live view.
Unless I missed it I did not know whether this camera was a loaner, a gift from Leica or a purchased unit. Very hard to make informed decisions without that knowledge.
Nice review Gajan. I agree that this “43” version of the Q3 will take over as the most popular. A good indication is the number of Q3’s showing up on the used camera market already. Now if they’d just come out with a Q3 75 (APO)! :^)
Uk. Wow, I wasn’t even aware that Leica was planning this …. Mind you the Q3 has a special revered in my head, a kinda of locked treasure chest. I know about it but it doesn’t really exist in real world. But the Q3 43 is even closer to my dream camera, which I hadn’t even dreamt of yet, is dancing in front of me like the most seductive Arabian Princess and I am completely smitten !! (But PLEASE don’t tell me the Price !! )
The X100Vi is a fun camera at best. I have one and was disappointed with the lens. As to Schroodinger, unless you are taking pictures of live/dead cats, will anyone know what you are talking about?
Yes I just ordered I love bec it’s APO new lens lighter and sold my crown 50mm and kept my Q3 still bec I need my 28mm . Both will work with my SL3 and SL2S
No offense to Leica people out there but why did i not see any great shots to mention with the precious Leica till today? Its like a golden useless tooth nobody is proud of except the owners. It is cute just in videos only. There is no art lens or dedicated portrait lens to mention. Its not like "my photo is titanium because it is taken with Leica"
Clearly this issue represents a miss by Leica. They should redesign the hood and send new ones to existing owners. Good PR at little expense. Are you listening Leica? In the meantime, not a large problem for me- I will use a filter and merely pocket the hood during macro or buy the $35 knock off if I find this too cumbersome.
I’ve been shooting 2 old canon rangefinders for the past 3 years a 45mm ql17 and 40mm ql17 giii. I’ve grown really accustomed to a focal length close to 43mm which makes the Q343 seem up my alley. But despite that I’m still more interested in the regular Q lineup for its 28mm focal length. It’s hard to beat the quality of the 28mm lens included on the Q bodies for its price. It may not be exactly a rangefinder experience but I almost always shoot wider focal lengths stopped down so that doesn’t feel like a hindrance to me.
I bought a Q2, then upgraded to Q3 and will upgrade to Q3 43 - why this is what I wanted and finally they have done it. Could they not do it 10 years ago? Yes they could. But better late than never. I just need one great lens in a Leica body .. and this is the one.
Thank you for your very articulate review. As a photographer who has the highest regard for the very special Q2 Monochrom, I am holding out (hope springs eternal) for a Q3 43 Monochrom to work alongside the Q2 Monocrhom 28mm.
You have to buy an extra lens hood if you want to use this camera with a filter. That's a fail. Leica should supply a compatible lens hood like with the original Q3 (28mm) and not try to be just small.
I did a comparison between the Q3 43 and a secondhand M 240 kit with two lenses (50 & 90). The two options cost about the same as each other, but the Q3 43 offers much more. Now, add a third lens (28) to the M 240 kit, and add a secondhand Q2 to go with the Q3 43, and again, the costs are similar, but the Q kit offers much more for your money. That is an angle worth looking at in a future video, perhaps? I'd like to know how different people will react to that. Sometimes, value is not so easily defined.
Is going with xioami 14 ultra or vivo x100 pro better than going with the likes of a sony rx100 vii or any compact camera? I value pocketablity factor really much, so I'm kinda overwhelmed and confused on what should be my decesion. I also do value video quality ( in a fixed room ) to shoot my music recordings. Bc of that i even also thought of considering an iPhone, but its photos are really lackluster. Also do you think iPhone paired with lenses (from moment,sandmarc,beastgrip) will potentially cause any improvements and make it comparable to xioami/vivo in raw photos?
Fuji XT5 18 F1.4 40 megapixels. I’m cropping and getting great results! And I saved over 8K When people are struggling just to put food on the table, I can’t justify any premium products anymore.
Very cool!..everything is nice as it should be based on the original Q3…but some missed opportunities for sure for a better “update” especially that bump on the price point…it could have at least implemented a built in memory like their other models…also No CAI ( Content Authenticity Initiative) support which could have been nice to have and also a bump on better AF performance..because we all know that the original Q3 isn't as efficient in the AF..lol just some little things to point out..but at the same time all these points could have made the camera even more of a worthy "upgrade" and that fact that some of these points are available, i.e built in memory, CAI..and Lecia chose not to implement them in this body is kind of disappointing..especially for that price bump, obviously goes towards the lens nothing else ..haha
Leica makes a lens that minimizes chromatic abberation like any regular lens should , brands it as “apochromatic” and the unwashed masses eat it up like it’s a revolutionary offering😂 There’s a sucker born every minute
For me the Q3 43 is the most appealing of the whole Q series. Mainly because of that APO lens and the IMO very well chosen focal length. I am starting to save for one as my everyday shooting and travel companion. I know what Leica APO glass can deliver and for me this makes it a clear winner especially when considering the relatively high price of other similar Leica APO lenses - for M as well as for SL. Brave and right move by Leica!
My father was a colletor, among his (i think 600 vintage cameras) ther are 6 Leica's + a few extra lenses, can they just as a few analog Nikon lensen i got be used on a A6000 (E-mount) and what mount should i be looking for.
"...I think it's going to be the most popular Leica Q camera going forward." Until the Qx 35 with a 35mm lens is dropped. 🤣 Probably never going to happen as Leica wants to protect their M series with the large amount of 35mm lens options.
I’m scared! I have a Q2 and an M11. My local Leica store here in South Korea 🇰🇷 have already been in touch to tempt me to drop more money on a Q3 43! How do I resist?
Perfect lens for creative artists to do their work in this particular range , off course ONLY Leica can take such decisions and actually crate a product of this unmatched level . Cheers to 43 .
