An absolutely inexcusable loss for the Celtics in Game 2. This series was decided in this game. Had Boston took it serious, and won, they win the series in 6.
This was the first series of the 2-3-2 format, and proved to be total BS for the Celtics. Remember, DJ hit the game winning shot in LA, to tie the series at 2. Before, Game 5 would've been in Boston, with a good chance the Celtics go up 3-2, just like the season before, and eye a Game 7 at home. But, going back to Boston, down 3-2, the mindset was totally different, having to win 2 games, instead of 1. Nevertheless, the Celtics should've been ashamed to lose this series, especially in only 6 games, after this destruction in Game 1. It's too bad the Lakers didn't make it back to The Finals, the next season, in 1986, they would've got smoked in 5.
Growing up, watching these games, I ALWAYS thought the Lakers wore blue jerseys on the road, and could never figure out why they were called "purple and gold". Many people thought the same thing. But seeing pictures of the same exact game in magazines, they were VERY purple. For some reason, they looked blue on TV. I heard the explanation of why, one time, but forgot.
Boston would have 3-peated, 84, 85, 86, had they taken Game 2 of this series, seriously. After demolishing LA in The Memorial Day Massacre, they were overconfident, and laid an egg in Game 2.
Back in these days (and before), you would see people in their 60’s and 70’s going to games. Nowadays you hardly see anybody over 40 (unless they’re rich celebrities). I think that’s why you see so much childish behavior (stomping on cars, setting things on fire, etc) when a team wins a championship.
What really made a mark on me with this series is the fact that the Celtics took a tremendous beating in the early games and still prevailed as the champions in game 7. An awful lot of guts and character shown by two of the most tremendous teams ever in the NBA. Sure miss this caliber of play in the NBA today.
3:42 It's interesting that such a dirty play like that from Worthy has never been replayed. You always see the one of Mchale taking out Rambis. I wonder why.
DENNIS RODMAN IS THE GREATEST REBOUNDER & GREATEST LOCKDOWN DEFENDER OF ALL TIME. RODMAN CAN GUARD ALL 5 POSITIONS. RODMAN GUARDED MAGIC JOHNSON, JAMES WORTHY, LARRY BIRD, KEVIN MCHALE, CHARLES BARKLEY, KARL MALONE, MICHAEL JORDAN, SHAQUILLE O'NEAL, ALONZO MORNING, &, MANY, MORE...
I REMEMBER WATCHING THE LAKERS 1988 NBA CHAMPIONSHIP RUN WHEN I WAS JUST A LITTLE KID LIVING IN SALT LAKE CITY UTAH WITH MY GRANDPARENTS, MOM, COUSINS, &, NIECE. I CHERISH THOSE MEMORIES. LAKERS MADE NBA HISTORY BY BEING THE FIRST NBA TEAM TO WIN BACK TO BACK TITLES IN 19 YEARS & BEING THE FIRST NBA TEAM TO PLAY 3 GAME 7"S ON THERE WAY TO REPEAT AS NBA WORLD CHAMPIONS & THE LAKERS BECAME THE FIRST NBA TEAM TO HAVE THERE HEAD COACH PAT RILEY GUARANTEE THAT THE LAKERS WOULD REPEAT AS NBA WORLD CHAMPIONS IN 1987 & THE LAKERS TEAM DELIVERED ANOTHER TITLE IN 1988 TO MAKE GOOD ON COACH PAT RILEY'S GUARANTEE. GO 2025 LAKERS!!!
Even though the Lakers were the one seed in the west and Philadelphia was the three seed in the east Philly had home court advantage because they had the better regular season record by one game.
