So close. At the intersection of Central and Mott Ave is the rebuilt library. If you had made a left onto Mott, my Dad's Post Office is half a block down. He delivered mail in that neighborhood from 1929 to 1959.

Thanks for the ride Omo. I'm from Far Rockaway and left there in 1962 with my parents for South Florida. The last place I remember living is an apartment house on the corner of Cornega Ave. and Nameoke St. The school just north of the apartment used to be PS39 my elementary school. Around the block at 18-35 Mott Ave is the Post Office my dad used to work out of. My Dad adopted a stray dog that followed him on his delivery route and the dog came with him delivering the mail. The New York Daily News had a small article about him and the dog. That was 64 years ago. Thanks for bringing up the memories for me.

Thanks for the tour, Omo. I lived as a child in Far Rockaway and never remember traveling west on Long Island.

Omo, are there still black tar deposits on the beach? I used to get tar on my feet when using the beach as a child in the 50's and 60's. My mom used gasoline to get the tar off.

I was born in Far Rockaway in 1953. My Dad was a mailman and worked out of the Post Office on Mott Ave and Beach 8th Street. He retired in 1959 and we moved to Miami. I believe that boardwalk used to be timber and on one visit to the beach as a child I got a big sliver of wood stuck in the bottom of my foot.
