This doesn't make sense. Remember, the man was being restrained in the apostles day and will be killed in the future return of Christ. So unless you can find a 2000 year old bad guy out there, yea, its not any one person. 2 The 3:6 said the man of lawlessness was being restrained in Paul's day, just not yet revealed. The mystery was already at work. This mystery is the false teachings percolating among the congregations. Those men who tried to get the flock to follow after themselves for their own glory and twisting the word of God and outright disobeying their Lord. This is lawlessness. But it was taking over the congregations because the apostles were restraining (v6) its influence by their oversight, letters and guidance. But after they died, the apostasy took over just as Paul warned. This is represented as the man of lawlessness. It is not any one specific person, rather the man is the system of false Christianity. Jesus slays this apostasy with the words of his mouth (v8). The Bible is here to help us resist the lies. Jesus brings lying religions to their complete end when he returns. And for the record, all men lie. ALL organized religion IS lawlessness. Anytime you have a clergy class ruling over a laity then your organization has gone into sin. We are brothers in Christ, we CANNOT set one group of brothers up over another and be pleasing to God, this will inevitably turn into SOMEONE trying to raise HIMSELF up and ruin the entire thing with commands of men taught as doctrine. At least some Amillennialists believe that the Christians who have died are ruling with Christ from Heaven. This takes place during the time between Christ’s First and Second Comings. They believe Satan is bound. Here is a major problem with that; If we just take a simple look at the world today it certainly does not appear that Satan is bound (so as not to deceive the nations) and Christ is ruling and reigning. If Satan is bound during the Church Age as per Amillennial doctrine, then why does scripture call him the god of this world? Also, if Satan was bound and Christ was reigning, do we really think we would have over a billion Muslims, who view Jesus as a prophet right below Mohamad, a billion Buddhists, who believe Jesus was an enlightened person, a billion Hindus, who believe Jesus studied yoga and became a guru to the Jews, a billion Catholics who are entrusting their souls to Mary at the hour of their death, nearly a billion atheists, the LGBTQ running rampant, TV shows and movies, that continually blaspheme God and His Christ, drinking, drugs, human trafficking, and colleges that have become propaganda mills that promote Godless, Big-bang theology and Darwinian Evolution, and a host of other sinful deeds that will be eliminated during the reign of Jesus Christ, our Holy God. This is a good example of eisegesis; reading pre-conceived ideas into the text, rather than simply reading what the text is clearly stating. Also, with Christ ruling from Heaven, why does 2nd Timothy 3:1-13 say, "But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. Paul was in the wrong. Paul taught that you could eat meat that was served to idols and he wasn’t really baptizing anyone just a few. James sent men to investigate Paul and Peter was sent there too. Apparently when Peter received word (speculation here) he withdraw from the gentiles because they were eating meat that came from idols and many of them were not baptized. You can read Revelation 2, Acts 15, The Didache, and The clementine writings on this subject. Peter was in the right.
I appreciated the different concepts and ways of viewing scripture, but I didn’t necessarily hear anything that lead me to believe one discipline is superior to another.
