This session was super fun for me. I know James about 15 years so since he was in Athens during touring it was more easy to make this happen. As for the mix, my intention was to capture the organic sound of these drums . Enjoy your day :)
Now that's more like it. I love this album (this and Winds Of Creation got me into tech death), but it has probably the loudest and fakest sounding triggers I've ever heard.
Great playing! So was this 5 takes mixed into 1? Since we never see any cameras in the shot. Impressive he is able to play the song the same multiple times in a row like this and just nail it. Really good editing too. Fantastic video
James is by far one of the best extreme guys out there today. So much speed, power, finesse, accuracy and groove combined. And he makes it looks so easy ! Killer performance & production.

@@georgebokos Absolutely ! I’ve seen him play live a couple of times, and even in touring conditions, the man can pull off this stuff. We catched up after one of the Decapitated shows, and he’s super cool and chill guy. :) Talking about the production, I spesificly liked the dynamics and very natural sound. How much did you let the mics and playing do the work so to speak ?
@@tino_drums666 Thank you for the nice words. Keeping the dynamics and going for the natural sound was my intention! During the recording, there is very minimal processing in the way in so the majority comes from the playing as James has a very dynamic playing, the mics and mic preamps and the room off-course which is live sounding. There is another video coming very soon where I am talking about the whole setup and the recording chain for this session, so keep an eye on sE RU-vid channel. I kept the same approach during mixing without over compressing and over processing the drums. This happens because the recording is very good. Significant role to the final organic sound are some really high end analog gear that I am using on the drum bus and on mastering. They give that extra bump which I really like.

Sir I am very tired of asking everyone. But I did not get the right advice from anyone. Some say to buy a dynamic mic, some say to buy a condenser mic. I want to record my poetry professionally at home. Please tell me a good mic and audio interface which gives me professional sound quality within my budget. My room is not Sound proof, My total budget is 350 dollars for audio interface, mic and headphones.
