I officiate soccer for high school. Parents complain, might even call you names, but if that’s as far as it goes… so what?! Is it bad? YES! Immature? ABSOLUTELY! But these kids deserve the best officiating possible. Outside of physical threat or assault on an official, get over it. Give these kids the best officiating they experience they’ve ever had. There will almost always be ONE team that feels like they were robbed. That’s just the way it goes. But if your ego can’t handle it maybe the issue doesn’t rely solely with the parents, players, and coaches.
behavior of assigners can have a bigger effect then fan and coach behavior. there are many tools to deal with unrulily fans and coaches - officials just need to be trained to use them properly. The biggest turn-off I hear from officials is how they are treated by assigners.
Sportsmanship issues toward NFHS contest officials is not new. Calling attention to it is not new. Putting steps in place to improve the situation would be new.
I officiated for one season. She is correct. It’s getting out of hand. Coaches, parents, and even association leaders don’t protect the officials. Coaches are going off with no repercussions. Parents yelling from the stands as association leaders stand by and watch. Honestly I have returned to coaching. Small groups. Not returning to officiating.
And his knee pads are where on Alvin Henderson? And just have to love all the tee shirts and jerseys not tucked in and stuff hanging out of the back of helmets.
interference by the runner. As It appears F5 had chance in fielding that ball until runner interference F5 is clearly in right on making attempt of fielding ball as well as F6 . just because F6 ended up with ball, doesnt automatically make F5 in violation.
R1 is clearly obstructed advancing to 3B. Rule states an obstructed runner cannot be called out between 2 bases. Even if there is a tag up responsibility, why wasn't R1 granted 3B after the appeal, provided the runner then makes the tag up obligation ?
Been a teacher and coach at the HS level for 40 years. While I love the kids I coach and teach, there needs to be decisions made by adults, not 14-18 year old kids. Do you remember what you were like at that age? Listen to them and then be the adult and make hard choices and lead.
We've always known that a healthy nuclear is best for our kids. When that cant happen, most fathers like me ensure their kids are loved and successful. States like Minnesota make laws to punish men. Can you help change that?
This has been an obvious problem for years. Teens are treated like kids who don't know anything, instead of young humans who have good ideas and do well when heard and guided.
If you know the rule how could this make it confusing? He even shows how to mark the lineup card once players are going in and out. This made it much easier to understand and how to explain when a "rules expert" is sitting nearby and telling the coach that what the opposing coach is doing is not legal...which just happened last night.
Thank you for the video. I see 3 base umpires. I don't quite understand why U3 and U1 moved into fair territory, when U2 makes the call at 2B. Imho: maybe slow down the timing of the call.
I wish there were more that we could do as coaches, administrators and student leaders, this is mainly "preaching to the choir" and in this fatherless society where the traditional family unit is almost completely broken down, we are mostly powerless to change this.
