Some master canoeists would position themselves a bit more forward in the boat (knees underneath the centre thwart) so that the gunwale is closer to being level (this demonstrator is trimmed ‘down by the stern’ - with the bow noticeably higher than the stern)
Vessel hulls are heeled when they roll to one side due to a force (such as an intentional temporary weight shift, wave or wind forces) and return to upright when the force is removed. Sailing vessels are often heeled so weight is shift to counteract the roll. When a vessel is rolled to one side due to a permanent unbalancing e.g. an accidental flooding that unbalances the hull and shifts the centre of balance off the keel line (center line) then the hull is listing not heeling. (These nautical terms go back hundreds of years.) The reason for heeling is to change the underwater shape of the hull so as to be asymmetrical for easier maneuvering; the keel is less effective so linear tracking (going straight ahead) is less noticeable. The lever arm distance of the [power face to the heeled canoe centre of rotation] is decreased so less spin (torque force) is applied to the hull - which makes correction less needed… sweeping to turn increases the lever arm so the mechanical advantage of the power face cause the boat to turn more readily because there is increased torque (spin or turning) force for the same muscular exertion.
This fails because you still needed two people, even tho one was an old lady. The whole point of these car topper systems is that they are operated by one man.
Thank you for showing this technique! I am going to restore a 1962 Seliga that had fiberglass on it. I was struggling to find answers on the best way to remove the glass.
The outside stem protects the weak sacrificial painted canvas exterior. Best reason it was removable, replaceable, this is why it can't be covered with modern fiberglass and attached to the boat permanently.
Just beautiful I have my baptism gown I’m 63 and my brother was baptized in it also he’s 67 my children have all been baptized The baptism gown now my grandchildren it’s an honor to be passing it down I hope someday my great grandchildren will be baptized in it also
I'm thinking of buying a box truck that has added fiberglass coating over the wood floor.. doesn't look very thick but do you think I could remove it the same??
I'm doing mine and my sons christening gowns now, my sons, 46 year old is still very white, mine 66 year old has a lace overlay and has yellowed a lot, even tho both were kept in the dark all those years. I hope it works as Im going to frame both with respective pics too.
I have been looking for a boat loader solution for a long time. After studying many alternatives, I believe that your solution is the best. There are sophisticated systems, but yours is the most ingenious. I will try to make a similar one. Congratulations
I have had great success in restoring to a bright white on old gowns with this technique as well but find a couple of little tricks actually make it come out as good as it was when new. You may try to add a few drops of "Mrs. Stewarts' liquid blueing" to the wash water BEFORE the dress is added. The water should be light sky blue. This product has been reviving whites and removing dull grey deposits since 1883. It can be purchased in the grocery store laundry dept. Also, for stains, rub a "Fels-Naptha Bar" with cold or warm water over the stain by hand. This stain laundry bar was made in 1886 and is GREAT, It can be used on any colored fabric as well, but the liquid blueing must only be used on whites. These used with mild detergent and allowed to sit in a bath overnight will safely soak out the centuries and will work miracles!
I have a baby dress from the 1920s. I've always been afraid of cleaning it because it's made of sheer fabric and lace. I tried soaking it in warm water for a while until the water turned yellow. It made a big improvement.
Interesting considering I just called Old Town Canoe looking for info on a 1970's canoe I just acquired and they stated that they have no way to identify any canoes built before late 1979. I even provides the serial and haul numbers.
by the time this old fart got this kayak off it would be sundown, see how easy they lifted it off, they could have lifted it straight of f the roof , this was very painful to watch.
Hey, wanted to say thank you for taking time outta your day to make this vid. I'm kinda stupid on estimating tho. Was wondering if you could tell me about how much water to use. I see that you used a scoop of oxy but I've never had luck with it even when following directions to a t. It only ever bleaches or deteriorates the item I use it on. So sorry this is so long a comment. Just sincerely curious how you came out with such amazing results.
