Foreign Policy is a global affairs magazine and website. Founded in 1970, its editors set out to create a platform for alternative views about U.S. foreign policy in a way that was “serious but not scholarly, lively but not glib.” Today, FP continues to be serious, lively, and non-partisan but also global and diverse. It is a forum for new ideas and debate on international politics and economics, drawing on a team of in-house reporters as well as writers who are experts or practitioners of foreign policy and based around the world. FP has also grown to include podcasts, live audio and video journalism, research and analytics, and events. Subscribe to FP’s RU-vid channel and visit foreignpolicy.com to experience the magazine.
There should be NO permanent members. There should be no unilateral VETO power. Also, how does the Russian Federation get to legally sit in what is technically the seat held by the former Soviet Union.? It would seem that chair would have been opened up to make way for a different member state upon the dissolution of the USSR. Instead, the Russian Federation ASSUMED the seat of the USSR. It seems quite clear that the USSR still occupies the seat after all.....only by a different name placard: Russian Federation.
A very confused retired military officer who doesn't understand the big picture . Aren't we in existential crises? There is something almost absurd about this man..
McMaster and other republican academics have spent years twisting themselves into pretzels, trying to spin Trump into a semblance of normality. They "translate ' his incoherent, puerile ramblings into something they, and us would prefer to hear from a president. They present him in a far greater light than he deserves, and in doing so, do this country a great disservice. I believe they do this, party, because to do otherwise, and admit that Trump never had the intellect, ability, and moral character to be a decent President, would make themselves look foolish and gullible. Meanwhile, as they sane wash him, Trump is on his hatefest tour, campaigning with Laura Loomer, a conspiracy theorists, racist, extremist, and tweeting "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT" How pathetic, weak, and childish. I suppose McMaster's non endorsement of Trump is as much of his, choking down on his ego, as we will see. I repeat, a huge disservice to this country.
The differance is Trump doesn't have to come in with a plan. He didn't have a huge plan in 2016, nor 2019 with covid yet we still teived as a country. Harris couldn't do it right if you handed her the plan word for word, example being the boarder crisis which is considered foreign affairs.
As a matter of fact, Trump did say in another opportunity that he is against war. He just didn't get into the logistics. I'm sure he has his reasoning for not going into it. Let's see how/when he expounds.
Bill Blair is an absolute mess!! Wow Bill you're quite a guy eh? 🤣 Minister of defense huh? G-20 was an absolute disgrace for the Toronto police and the country, but Billy boy just goes skipping along. 🤣🤣 What a POS!!!
Claude Shannon, Jonas Salk and George Danzig were from U of Michigan. Who's George Danzig, you may be asking ... well, he developed the Simplex Algorithm used to optimize linear systems subjected to linear constraints. It is a hugely important algorithm that gives a simple, optimal, computationally simple solution to what was at the time an impossible to solve (optimally) problem. The paradigmatic problem is finding the minimal cost of a mixture given it's contents and costs. After WWII, a British mathematician worked to find how to give the British people all the nutrients using only the available food at the time. He worked for years doing trial and error calculations by hand. With Danzig's algorithm I can make that calculation using a slider rule in one afternoon.
Here in Brazil, if you count the whole Lebanese community, the total is larger than the population of Lebanon. I had an uncle of Lebenase origin! Together with Syrian community they form the bulk of the Arab community in Brazil. For me, their greatest contribution to Brazil - besides medicine, scholarship, mathematics, engineering and economics (Edmar Bacha, for instance) - is their cuisine! I loved a restaurant in downtown Sâo Paulo - Jacob's Restaurant - that had on display two photos (taken from the same position) of Beirut right after the civil war and after it was recovered. Mr. Jacob was proud of his Lebanese origins and those two photos on display show that. ... a curiosity: there are 4 excellent hospitals in São Paulo city: the public Clinics Hospital, the one funded by the Portuguese community - where Noam Chomsky was treated recently - the Royal Portuguese Beneficent Society Hospital and ... the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital and the Israelite Albert Einstein Hospital. Out of the four, guess which two are share the top position? As in all Arab Middle East, the origins of the problems is the end of the Ottoman Empire and the European mandates. Lebanon delayed it's plural democratic life when the French supported the Maronites right after independence. The agreement that ended the Civil War created a disfunctional public administration that ended up being the root cause of the huge explosion in Beirut's port some years ago. Lebanon and Syria received huge numbers of Palestinian refugees - and in Lebanon there were the famous late 1970s massacres of Palestinians by Christian militias. The Sabra and Shatila massacres, btw, were facilitated by the IDF forces responsible for the safety of the refugees. With the exception of Palestine, Lebanon has suffered the most since independence - a constant and strong suffering.
The policy shift changed dramatically when Donald Dump started running his loud mouth to shame China and just about all of our allies at the same time. Anyone who knows anything about Asian culture, knows that the Chinese value respect and honor more than anything else. Trump, knows nothing about culture and respect. China will not allow anyone to ridicule them publicly. We and our allies should be carefully planning our strategy to COMPETE with China, Russia, India, Brazil, etc. And to make sure we all come to the table to make ensure the survival of our species. If our planet doesn’t survival neither will we.
Is this lady for real? Celebrating the "greatest alliance" ever and then saying "freedom loving people." You do realise establishing a large alliance invites other large alliances? You just pit the world into groups and you create a headache for everyone. I honestly cba with Americans.
Maybe a broader topic would be the evolution of universities in their societal roles, from institutions of scholastic theology to vocational training programmes (especially as science dominated intellectual life with its economic applications) to symbolic battlegrounds of the "culture war"
Barbara F. Walter is wrong about a lot of stuff, but I agree with her on this. My problem with Barbara is she supports cancel culture. She says, "take their megaphone away". That is the worst thing possible. When parties can no longer voice their grievances, they have no alternative but to settle matters in the streets.
I think what I find ironic is that 12 of the last 16 years have been run by either Biden or Harris to some extent yet neither of them want to claim any responsibility for all of our massive economic failures that are coming to light right now
Yeah, it was actually Trump that introduced wanting to make tips tax-free. It just was so popular She quickly stole it away from him which is not surprising for her character.
