Folks most interested in this are folks in it, or people wanting to know what the trails at Famous Reading Outdoors, RAC, AOAA and Hatfield-McCoy look like. Pat and friends putting along trails. Pat is old and slow, and tries to be careful, so there is not much action here.

Give ya a little background about yourself and why you bailed so quickly? How much experience do you have riding trails? Or was it the bike you were on? Or age catching up w/ you? I want to bring my 10yr who just got his first bike w/ a clutch. I'm trying to find out how much easy trails they have there.
I'm 73, been riding dirt bikes weekly for 12 years. I started riding dirt bikes when I was 18. I have put 220 hours and 3000 miles on my KTM Friday I drove down 10 hours from PA to HM. Saturday I rode Bearwallow. Sunday I rode Cabwaylingo. I was tired, physically and mentally. But the crew wanted to ride Tornado Monday and I did not want to skip it. It was hot and muggy, and had been the prior two days. I should have skipped it. I was riding my KTM 300 XCW, which I love and ride all the time. I'm not in my twenties anymore. I do get tired. Trail #10 beat me, its that simple. The constant switchbacks meant I never could catch my breath. There were nine riders behind me and there was no place to pull off and let them pass. If I could have just let them by and rested for 10 minutes, I might have been OK. If you ten year old has a couple of years of riding and is a good rider, he won't have any problems. But there are no green trails in Tornado. They are all blue and up and that is real. Some folks say you can turn off #10 onto #11 and skip a lot of the switchbacks. I'll try that next time.
@@PatFarrellKTM Thanks Pat. That's perfect info, just what I needed to hear. My son just gets a few rides in a year but hasn't taken out his new 110 w/ a clutch yet and I think he'll appreciate an ALL GREEN trail for just maybe some challenging dirt roads for starters. It's gonna be a while before I think he can do BLUES all day long. Thank you!!!
This year has been hard to get out for me, I appreciate the quick vids more than I used to😁 we have had so much house stuff to do this year and it’s been so oppressive and humid I didn’t get out as much as I usually do Thanks for sharing!!!
Yes, I found this year's heat and humidity too oppressive to make me want to put on all the protective gear and go riding on the black coal dust trails. It will cool off soon.
Just watched your video on Ivy Branch. I am a newbie, 71 yes old. Looking for riding buddies. If you have need for someone to tag along get in touch. I live in Clarksburg so I have to travel to get down to Charleston and other areas down there.
Just curious, are you using a GoPro and if so, how did you get the map speedometer elevation on the screen? We’re just wondering what system you were using that’s pretty cool.
He loves it in general. Says its not up to full FRO rocks (suspension too little travel) but tons of fun on less technical stuff. Its quick in the tight trails, almost like a trials bike. He put trails tires on it, the stocks were too street oriented. I don't know all, its not my Suron, but the headlight and footpegs are much more enduro/motorcycle style. The rear axle nut fell off, which makes it hard to ride. The owner has ordered two axles and nuts (one to use and one set of spares).
@@PatFarrellKTM ok, very likely. I havent been to Darkwater since the summer. I get a little lost with all the clearing and work thats been done up there. It looks so different in places.
No, but most of the guys took the usual single-track. Since this was my first ride on the new eyeballs, I took the easier trail. Steve Wheels was behind me.
@@PatFarrellKTM race render I’ve been wondering how to do that. I may try that one day with my race videos. Hope you’ve been well Pat. I’m planning a hatfield trip with a few buddies this Summer haven’t been in a few years
@@SkinnySkinch We just got back last week from 4 days riding Hatfield-McCoy. There were 11 of us, including the crew in this video. Great fun, we had rain the first day, and the trails were super slick. But weather was great the next three and the trails dried out nicely. We had a ball. We'll be going back in September.
Real tough going. I must be about your age or actually a bit older. If I was riding that without somebody along with , I would have been in a heap a trouble! Glad you got out of that mud puddle okay 👍
