This may help you with your AM reception. On the rear of the chassis is a 2-terminal strip for a external AM antenna. When using the loop stick antenna, there should be a jumper across these terminals. A lot of these old tuners are missing the jumper. A short piece of wire will suffice.

My husband was gifted one of these bad boys from Cornell's theatre arts department. Half the neighbors love him, the other half ...not so much. You can't please everyone...so ya got ta please yourself.
