I downloaded it this morning, and it's much easier than freecad, thanks for that. However there's one quirk that's driving me nuts. I've asked questions on the discord and messaged on Facebook and got no answer. When I export an STL, and open it in a slicer, it is exactly twice the size of the original model. Even something simple. I go into ondsel create a sketch, put in a 20 mm circle. Close the sketch pad it by 10 mm, and export it as an STL. When I open it in any slicer, it will be 40 mm with a pad of 20 mm. I can scale it to 50% before printing and it's fine, but I can't figure out why it's outputting double sized STLs.
Wish there was a way to set the offset in the joint settings, visually or otherwise. Have to make the joint, finish it, then go to the joints properties. Specifically annoying for slide joints.
Does this work automatically and is there any problem with sym linking (or more preferred would be a path editor in the ui) the required configuration to a server if all within the same network.
This assumes that a user chooses to upload or download defaults, so it can't be automatic. Or maybe we don't understand what you mean by "automatic"? Please elaborate on symlinks and networks
@@Ondsel Common configs like templates, xyz planes defaults (eg z is up instead of y like in some software... solidworks), and unit and other global that may need updated company wide could be pointed at a different folder on a server or shared drive allowing and admin or somone who knows how on the team to change defaults for all users new and old without even having to touch there computer
Have no idea what I do wrong but I don't have any tools in the browser in either sketchers or part design. I have uninstalled and re installed to no avail.
This is brilliant!... You make a better version of Freecad and give it away for free in true FOSS fashion, but then you provide the service that any serious professional would end up using anyway. Thus realistically there is no reason for me to not use the services should I need them because by using the services I'm indirectly supporting FOSS development. This is the prefect way to monetize open source development!
There already is an automatic tangent constraint in Sketcher when you draw geometry. Not "intersection" yet though, that request is being tracked here: github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/issues/12670
Amazing, but need to focus on streamlining basic modeling, assemblies and technical drawings. These are must haves. So many solid modelers DONT have integrated drawings. This is really important.
@@illRun4Clownident while I do agree and these guys have done great! if they have very heavy accents that could be an issue although considering they are planning to provide support possibly over the discord or something at the moment it could be good to have someone that has the most understandable accent to take over the voice overs (even with AI getting so good as it was harder to tell than others. it just sounded like one that we all hear)
@Ondsel I'm actually with the others here - I thought at first it was a real human voice before seeing this comment, and thought how nice it was to hear one of the developers actually involved with this project talking excitedly about a new feature! If any of the team has even passably understandable spoken English, I would love to hear a human voice announcing features like this! Anyone who has trouble with the accent (which I'm sure is better than you give yourself credit for) can just check the subtitles :)
Don't get me wrong - I love what you are doing and I believe that you already revolutionize accessible CAD for everyone. But I´d rather like to see Ondsel catch up with the big CAD/CAM packages in terms of usability and ease of use instead getting hyper specialized features.
Oh, but it isn't "opensource", it's free/libre (LGPL), same as FreeCAD. As for the rest - too early to say, the business model is still being fleshed out
every modeling output is presented in a detailed drawing, sometimes the assembly is accompanied by a parts list or bill of materials in it, I'm still confused about how to do that
sketchup's format is proprietary so there's not much we can do. Step file import is very well supported. STL is a mesh format. They can be imported into ondsel/FreeCAD and conversion is possible but any time you try to convert from a mesh to a solid, the results will be less than satisfactory.
Like what you are doing with FC, one small ask would be to be able to toggle axis cross in sketcher. Y axis is nearly the same color as constrained geometry.
Really need a way to actually see what kind of constraint is about to be set, the targets and feedback are absolutely tiny (as are the constraint symbols)
Also, I wonder if you guys did something to 3d mouse handling? I personally tried using my 3dconnexion space mouse with freecad and while it is generally possible, the experience is far from smooth like when it is coupled with SW or Fusion. I am talking about jumping and stroking when panning or zooming in/out.
There were reent changes in upstream FreeCAD that changed some things for 3D Connexion users. If you repeat this trick - github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/issues/14044#issuecomment-2114456980 - does it help at any rate?
@@Ondsel this thread is actually irrelevant for me because i use legacy device 3dconnexion SpaceExplorer, support for which has been discontinued in 2019. But they still have a decent driver for my device in their archive, which I installed, and upon installing both Ondsel and this driver they seem to be going along well. I have noticed, however, another quirk in the permanent cut section: the checkboxes next to "Cutting X, Y, Z" planes are not visible, but when i click on where they are supposed to be, they still do the job and cut the objects. I also closed all the other possibly overlaying panels (lenses etc.) to exclude their influence. My monitor has 24 inches diagonal, so it is not because of small viewing area either. System Windows 10, hp laptop with integrated video card. I thought you might want to know this. Sorry for spamming here, i am not familiar with opening issues on GitHub.
@@Ondsel i am using legacy 3dconnexion SpaceExplorer, for which this thread is irrelevant. Even though 3dconnexion has discontinued its support, it still has a decent driver released in 2019 in the archive. So i installed both Ondsel and this driver and seem to be going along quite well. However, i noticed another quirk with displaying section cut checkboxes in the respective right-hand panel (those ones located next to Cutting X, Y and Z). The mentioned checkboxes do not appear, even though they are there. I know because when i click in the spot where a checkbox is supposed to be, it still does the job done and cuts the object along a particular plane. It is not a panel issue because i preemptively closed all the other ones (like lenses) so exclude their influence. It is not due to little view space because i have 24 inches external monitor on windows 10 laptop with integrated graphic card. I thought you'd want to know this and i am sorry for spamming it here, because i do not know how to open GitHub issue for this observation.
Awesome news, very promising for all engineers worldwide! Now the only thing remains is to ensure it is not getting bought out by some big sharks of the industry and put on hold or dissolve into the guts of bigger fish.
Once this is combined with the new topo naming fix, ability to extrude individual faces from a single sketch from RT Branch and the new feature in the Dev branch where you can make multiple solids in Part Design with 1 sketch it's actually going to be a competitive program that even novices can learn.
I'm a beginner and I've hit a wall as there are few tutorials on youtube for Ondsel yet, ie. how to edit .stl files. Your website lacks a wiki (would love something like Bambu's), and Freecad videos don't seem to translate in this particular instance. Little help?
Yes sort of, I guess I need to essentially learn freecad first or at least simultaneously. I ended up finishing my project in blender, which sucked. I want to invest the time into learning parametric cad, but need something with its own learning resources. Hitting walls like the stl thing is annoying to say the least. Yes, Bambu wiki has been helpful
I was looking for something to replace the atrocius pricing methods of Autodesk Fusion. Looks like I found the successor. Great job! Making an open-source project look this good is no easy task.
@@Ondsel can’t wait .. I’ve been spending the Ondsel word to all my machine shop owners (I’m an electrical contractor and repair and rebuild mills/lathes manual and cnc etc..but I also build guitars on my own cnc’s ) A few shop owners have expressed interest and loved the ui etc but balked at the path workbench .. general consensus ; convoluted and unstable
I hope that there will be proffesional paid support. I mean I don't need it but proffesional companies care about that and that would bring more popularity
