McGill University. World famous for being a hotbed of Antisemitism and being taken over by pro-Hamas nut jobs who want to "globalize the intifada!" I'll pass on watching this video.
Thanks for this video. Very informative and interesting. How do i browse through the digital version of the second scrapbook. I couldnt folow your instructions. Please type the website or the way i could access this digital version.
Hello! The two McGill scrapbooks are catalogued and their records are linked below. We have requested that they be digitized, and will share links once available : Recipe scrapbook. Berthe Soeur, former owner, donor. (1934). [Scrapbook of recipes]. mcgill.on.worldcat.org/oclc/468787403 Sample book of quilt and embroidery patterns. Laura B Thompson. 1895.mcgill.on.worldcat.org/oclc/1350930711 You can browse the Winterthur library catalog, Wintercat, online. library.winterthur.org:8001/search/query?theme=winterthur Both Geraldine's Scrapbook of Dresses (catalog link: library.winterthur.org:8001/lib/item?id=chamo:76129&fromLocationLink=false&theme=winterthur&Envoke-2024-04-24-unexpected-scrapbooking-event&Unexpected-Scrapbooking%3A-Recording-and-Book-Links&eid=08616b72338ec4786ff1a7c8bd9d4d6b) and the collage album scrapbook (library.winterthur.org:8001/lib/item?id=chamo:27711&fromLocationLink=false&theme=winterthur&Envoke-2024-04-24-unexpected-scrapbooking-event&Unexpected-Scrapbooking%3A-Recording-and-Book-Links&eid=08616b72338ec4786ff1a7c8bd9d4d6b) have been digitized and can be browsed and downloaded via ContentDM.
Winterthur stores both of their examples flat in acid-free archival boxes, in temperature and humidity controlled vaults. McGill too stores the scrapbooks flat, closed, and in an climate-controlled environment. But, if you don't have anything like that at home, keeping books out of direct sunlight and in a place without major temperature fluctuations is best!
"Rich" and "delicious" absolutely. Just had time to catch up on this now and am thoroughly engaged. Thank you so much for hosting this rare book event!
Just watched due to time difference. Absolutely wonderful, thank you so much for the presentation. I was thinking some of the glue could have been cow gum. It came in a tin and was awful stuff (and smelly) to spread with a piece of card but supposedly didn’t bleed through to the art pieces. We had to use it to mount our art pieces on A1 art boards to take to our university interviews in the UK. That became superseded by spray mount eventually.
12:26 LOL It was I that said “accursed aspic era”. And I stand by that statement. I have seen the images of the aspic era of food and still question why it exists. 😂😂😂 Still hoping that recipe book will be digitized in the future. It would be interesting to see if there are any more accursed recipes in there (the most cursed vintage recipe though I think goes to the banana and hollandaise casserole thing I once saw).
The Recipe Scrapbook and Laura Thomson's teacher's scrapbook are both in the McGill Collections in Montreal, Canada. Geraldine's Dress Scrapbook and the Collage album are from the Winterthur Collection in Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia. The Winterthur scrapbooks are digitized and browsable here: cdm17274.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/Textiles/id/3087/rec/1 and cdm17274.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/collage/id/266/rec/1
Well, that was not terribly helpful for those of us that don't use Word. Can you please show us how to use Zotero to add IEEE in-text citations in Apple's Pages, please? No-one I know uses Word due to its paid-for hegemony.
Hi, thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, Zotero doesn’t work with Pages. If you would like to use Pages, you will need to have an Endnote plugin [ support.apple.com/en-ca/HT204395 ]. If you have additional questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out via our Library Guide here: libraryguides.mcgill.ca/citation/home. Thanks.
Alex…you are such a cutie. Love seeing you so animated and in your element when talking about historical events. I really appreciate your expertise and your stories of war times. Your voice is soothing and intriguing…I’m smitten. You make me want to learn more and you excite me, even after 30 years since I first met you. Thinking of you fondly from Toronto. Can’t wait to visit Les Jardins de Metis again soon.
I once knit a scarf, hat, and mitten set for my niece in her college colors using hexadecimal code to spell out her University's 3 letter code - OSU - for Oklahoma State University.
Our pleasure! It is always inspiring to hear from and share the work of creative researchers and scholars like Kristen. Each talk gives us a new perspective on our own collections.
Hi Louis, It should work with Windows as well. If you're not seeing the connector in Word, the best option would be to download Zotero again (with Word closed). If you continue to experience issues, chat, email, or text with a Library staff via the reference service: www.mcgill.ca/library/contact/askus. Hope that helps.
