Great Admiration for the Gladiatorial Way Vince played! What a Champion and I'm a Proud, Respectful Aussie. Derek Turner, McTigue, the list goes on for the way they played. Jack Wilkinson etc . etc. And Dick Huddart. They Played Hard, drew in the Defenders and pop the pass to the on coming bloke running through. Aussie Big Artie Beetson with that monster backside could do it, drew in around 4 Defenders, Twisted and popped the Ball to a Forward running off him. Where in Gods name has this type of play gone???
do you have the other clips at all because i would love to see them, he was my uncle and i was always amazed at the stories he'd tell from his playing days especially the ones from his tour of australia :D
Where he was from means absolutely nothing. According to my late Dad. Vince was and will remain one of the finest players the World will ever see from an era when money wasn't king. . A Class act
Yes my Friend! Forwards now in Oz Teams they have Brazilian JU Jitsu Men teaching the Forwards how to do what's called the Chicken Wing etc. etc. Get rid of them as the Game needs some Freedom to be a Dave 'Cement' Gillespie, Les 'Bundy' Davidson could box on. Steve 'Blocker' Roach etc etc. I have lost interest as the GAME is over Refereed.
Him and his wife Alice used to live in my street and alice being a teacher taught my older brothers and sisters. He was a great player but if I remembered right he lost his temper a lot
He dillied, he dallied, he passed it to Alex Alex had nowhere else to run So he kicked it in the air And Killeen was there It's a try....it's a goal we've won! Ste Greenall
I saw the great man play a number of times in the sixties. He retired in 68 I think when Tom Van Vollenhoven retired from the Saints team. A huge loss to league when Billy retired.
Yes I believe he scored 571 tries and scored a total of 1,727 points, playing at winger, centre, stand off and full back to great effect a true Legend.
Yeh, definitely a living Legend, and after interviewing him a spot on guy. When you think he played the 'hardest' game of all and still has nothing but praise for his fellow players, a true sportsman.
Yes, he told us the full story in the interview, lots of teams were chasing his signature at the time. It is quite funny how he eventually came to sign for Wigan.
