Wait, @ 4:11, even though you could get round trip tickets, you still need to get one way tickets? I bought my ticket for a round trip leaving on the 26th and returning the 29th, do i STILL have to get one ways from either side?
I took this ferry in August 2011. It is a spectacular cruise. Mt. Baker looked like a with its white peak against the piercing blue summer sky. We got off part way and stayed 2 nights on Orcas Island. Another wonderful place to visit. Then back on to finish the journey to Annacortes. Ferries were on time and have all the amenities one could want.
great video! 2 questions: 1) was that john durban's voice? I met him once & it sounds like him. 2) is it concerning or unuasual that early in the clip we saw the calf surface alone & not right alongside its mother (or another female)?
My family and I had the immense pleasure of going on the Western Prince II back in 2004, and it was the trip of a lifetime! The crew was terrific, and in the 5 hours we were out we saw no less than 3 orca pods and an amazing number of other native wildlife on the way. I was also impressed that the fleet used Biodiesel fuel and were just as much about protecting the local ecology as they were to entertain. WELL worth the trip to Friday Harbor - we'd love to do it again on the WP 1!
@luisaviation - Very safe. There has never been a reported "attack" of Orca on humans in the wild. Beyond that, all boats in the vicinity of Orcas - including kayaks - must follow Washington law RCW 77.15.740 which specifically states no vessel may approach an Orca within 300 feet. There are other provisions of the law, but that is the primary function. The only caveat is if the whales change course and approach you on a kayak. Then you would be able to count yourself as one of the lucky few!
@ronniecrop long time to get back to you Sorry when you wrote we were adding the newest member to our "crew". She is now 2 months old and keeping us going. As for your question Snug Harbor is not part of the States Scenic Byway on SJI and that's why it is missing from this video. Thanks for "watching" and all your comments.
