Welcome! The purpose of this channel is to inspire, entertain, educate, and empower teachers to reach and teach diverse students who need extra social, emotional, and academic help, so that they succeed in school, and graduate prepared for work and life.

My name is Dr. Manuel Scott, and, I have been serving educators, students, staff, and communities for the past 20+ years. I have delivered over 2,000 presentations to well over 2 million people in person, and many more online. I have served people in 49 states and on 6 continents.

I went from being a high school drop out to earning a Ph.D. I hope to add value to your life.

Again, welcome!

Freedom Writers is one of my favorite movies. I never tire of watching it, and every time it brings tears to my eyes. Erin Gruwell embodies the true essence of what a teacher should be. Thank you for sharing.❤

Always picked last. Parents clearly felt spending time with me was a chore. My best friend in high school was only allowed twelve invites to his party, so I didn't make the cut. In Phy.Ed., I'd get picked for teams only after the wheel chair kids and the girls who stood at the side instead of playing. The first girl to learn I had a crush on her almost puked when she found out. My cat was the only one who consistently chose me over anyone else, and she died.

These things all happened when I believed in God and had hope for my life. All I did was invest in being better and working harder, and now I have nothing left. All my investments came up dry, because guess what? Every investment is a gamble.

Hi Manny, firstly, thank you for the work you do to push our teachers to be their best for our kids so they may be better equipped to turn toward compassion & perhaps an absent grasp on their students' lived experiences. When those things occur, I believe our kids' success is promoted ❤ I agree with parts of your message here regarding the impact of the transference of energy, and it's potential impact on people. However, from my experience as a teacher, a mom & a grandma, IF the content of a speakers (or colleages) message is not relevant to a listener, then their negative & "tuned out" energy & feelings (i.e., frustration, irritation, etc) can actually increase. For example, as a teacher, I have been required to sit at meetings, PDs where I am thirsty for the "next step" in terms of reaching my hardest to reach students, and designing the most effective lessons/activities for my High School students. I long to strengthen my practice for the students that I love to pieces. However, soooo often those [repeat] messages focus on: Believe in our students! [I do!]; be upbeat & high energy [I am! I LOVE teaching!], Build relationships with your students & their families [I am often named by students not even in my roster, as a top 2 staff they trust]; Know your students' lives [I prioritize this!], etc. I already live these "suggestions" every single day. These "focus points" are already embedded in my teaching as an Art. However, as my frustration increases; and my longing for Content relevant to my needs as a teacher *to improve my practice for my students), I look around and see a sea of white teachers nodding their heads & wiping their tearing up eyes. And I just don't get it. My mission & purpose, as a teacher, is to serve students & families. If I don't have an understanding of the foundational, essential components as mentioned above (believing in your kids, be high energy, build relationships, etc) then perhaps I am in the wrong field! Perhaps I need to request to go on a sabbatical & get in touch with the community I serve & the cultures & experiences & perspectives of the children & families in the community I serve. I am hungry for "what's next?" I don't need to be "brought to tears" by a speaker (*the system & school administrators administration already does that lol). I need to know real-life strategies for continual improvement of my skills & methods so I can support my students in their "flights" and freedoms. Pleeease, it's the tears of teachers - and yes, they are white teachers tears- that diminish my energy & turns my smile upside down. So while I am in concert with you message here, I am ready for and need support from speakers (or you!) in "what comes next." Thank you Manny and others IF you even read this far! Lol All love - ❤️

Lets be honest, the kids arent the problem. Capitalism, is draining us all. Teachers forced to focus on non-useful standardized test, with no resources and little to no pay. Parents work long grueling jobs just like teachers, for no pay and no time to invest in theor kids cuz they are just as burnt out as you. And kids are hardly looked after, hardly paid attention to while they struggle to pass test (a terrible sense of if kids are doing well fyi) with no help in site (no money, time or resources from the adults). I hate the pretend like its all the kid or all the parents or even all the teacher. we are ALL part of the SAME system of burnt out, overworked, and unpaid almost slaves as the machine pushes us along and reminds us everyone to blame eac other. Teachers can quit but wiill soon find themselves in a similar postion, still underpaid. Thats fine, it may be easier to deal with the system without the kids or youll likely find it just as asinine, cheap and overworked itll put you in and youll find a new burn out. a few moments a peace. NEVER FORGOT, a small minority of parents and kids have been awful, ALWAYS HAVE (peoppe just forgot) but this system will never stop milking you dry
