I hope Taylor Tomlinson gets a real talk show, she is a natural talent. She has open personality, she is welcoming and warm but has the self deprecating quality, and she loves to make people laugh.
I feel sad with so many references to Conan and Letterman, when the king of self deprecation and deconstruction was Craig Ferguson. Those three were on a different planet and by far the best. Because they did not take themselves so seriously. Of course, they all were also pushed around by networks, they weren't the #1 show on TV. In a way, i think that Conan losing the Tonight Show was the best thing to happen to him.. Ferguson was for real not watched by even his own network, famously low budget, Letterman was pushed around by networks.. It was an uphill battle, not "i have ARRIVED!"...
To be fair, Donald is close to the same age as Kanye so it's more like his little brother. Regardless, I've honestly never thought to draw comparison of them two but I will say that as soon as I saw the title I told myself that it makes complete sense LoL. Good stuff.
great conversations! i love the ideas and questions you brought up, it's clear from both ends there's a lot of passion on these subjects. Greatful to have been able to peer into the conversation, thank you
The late night talk show is an antiquated concept. I wasn't crazy about Carson (yeah, I'm that old), I liked Arsenio's 1st run, hated Jay Leno, Fallon and Kimmel I didn't like before they moved to late night. I could tolerate Letterman, but I don't like Conan or George Lopez. Honestly the Jon Stewart Daily Show with Stephen Colbert behind him was about as good as it got in the last 20 years...streaming has made regularly, scheduled terrestrial television essentially useless...late night television included.
I found your channel from H3 and have enjoyed a bunch of your content, I was so excited to find this! My Dad passed away a week before lockdown (unrelated to COVID, he had a stroke in recovery from heart surgery). A month later, the Midnight Gospel saved me from myself. I'm an only child and the last remaining member of my family now at 32. Every single episode found a way to worm its way into a heart that didn't want to accept the world was going to keep turning without the people I love on it. It helped me to accept the gift of grief. Being able to appreciate every moment no matter how mundane, and to be grateful for the time that I get with the people I love. It taught me to be a lot less hard on myself. You've encapsulated my sentiments about this piece of work so precisely. Fantastic job as always, and thanks to anybody who read this far.
ah thanks for watching and sharing your story. my mom was diagnosed with cancer a month after the midnight gospel came out and she passed away like 9 months later. that last episode hurts a lot. its a really beautiful show and I hope netflix will let it free for someone else to pick it up. I hope you find fulfillment to make your life happy and meaningful
@@tallskeleton The last episode gets me every time no matter how many times I've seen it. Losing a parent is a completely different kind of deep, lifelong grief. Watching somebody you love lose their battle with cancer or something I hope I never see again. I also hope Netflix gets their dirty little paws out of it. You can tell it was made with a lot of passion and care, and it would be a shame to see that potential (and jobs for animators) fall by the wayside.
They just have horrible hosts with zero personality and horrendous comedy who just give their political opinions which no one cares about and fake personalities that everyone picks up on
