I live in Johnstone, Scotland and the freight has increased a lot since the demise of the coal industry. I used to hear the 37s from miles away 'double headed' heading from Falkland yard Ayr to Longannet and other coal fired power stations, that was the 80s 90s primarily growing up "I was born in 1982". Sometimes you would see the odd 56s,26s and the 08 shunters the latter during the night when the passenger services were off, I live next to the Ayrshire/Glasgow line and yeah definitely in the late 90s early 00s the class 66s replaced pretty much every retro locomotive mentioned above although we do still get the 56s quite often but there has been a massive increase in traffic from Dagenham docks and Daventry to the Mossend yard round this way, the other night about 02.00 i was out the back door and in the railway cutting was the mixed sound of the tractor thumping sound with a whistle like a 40 but the thrash of a 56...stick the sound of a wind turbine in a hurricane and by christ i heard the sweetest thing since the days of the 37 era...absolutely awesome especially at 02.00 and it goes full throttle in my back garden...awesome sound 😀 👍
@@sandletters39 similar to the voyagers I think they were introduced in 2001. Still rumours that they avanti voyagers may go to XC to replace their HST fleet but also XC arent planning on replacing their HSTs and even potentially want to increase their diagrams
