Hi I’m Sam and I’m a beef farmer and agricultural contractor in Wiltshire. We run Aberdeen Angus suckler cows, with Aberdeen Angus and Charolais bulls, as well as rearing calves and store cattle.

Our tractors are; John Deere 6215r and New Holland T7.235, we run a Krone round baler, and we chase both Fendt and New Holland square balers in the summer.

The forager we chase after is a John Deere 8500 with New Holland and John Deere tractors running Richard Western trailers.

All footage is taken from both our farm and/or nearby farms.

Great video update and the maize is what it is due to the strange 2022 conditions. When I was farming in Poland I had one year like this, but the others were excellent especially the grain maize and I learnt so much from simply growing and experimenting with various inputs. It is an exciting and rewarding crop to grow. GFR

Valtra are one of the best looking tractors since they stopped the ones that had the nose way in front of the front axel. I think the reason for the other valve hole is for if you used duels. I think all tractors should have wipers on both doors or at least the option. I like the small screen and the graphics are excellent but I don't really see the point of them being such high quality. That maize for ad or dairy?
@samsfarminglife7763
@samsfarminglife7763 Год назад
I agree they’re certainly are good looking. Yes good point, didn’t think of that as have no experience with duels. I agree to, wipers on the doors should come as standard, both doors aswell! Maize is for both, they feed the ad and the cows from the same clamp - saves having 2 clamps open spoiling the face.
@roberthiggins6401
@roberthiggins6401 Год назад
Maize is sparse this year. I've only seen one farm on you tube that had a great crop and I can't remember where that was, other than in England. The cab on the Deutz is way too small, I agree. They just went for design over practicality. The Valtra is better and they do look bloody smart.
@samsfarminglife7763
@samsfarminglife7763 Год назад
Yes the dry summer really hammered it, especially early on when it was germinating and growing through. Some of the wetter lying fields were better but still not there usual yields. Not sure why they made it so small though as there’s a 4 inch gap between the bonnet and the windscreen which they could have filled by making the cab longer, and width wise there’s a foot either side until you’re inline with the wheels. Good tractor though and cheap horsepower!

Sam. Hello. So good, watched it twice at least! And shared. Again, another proper insight. Nothing spared. Thank You. My dear old Mum would say ''biggest speed, lesser hurry''. Could apply! Funny as...but expensive. Cattle: Hopefully a mild Autumn, [call it an ''Indian summer''?] and they can stay outside on the fields for as long as possible. My gut feeling is we could be due a cold, long winter. Hope not! Didn't know about the bloating in the cattle on clover. You are a top livestock 'person'. Great care and attention. Excellent. Again, this is one that should be shown in schools and colleges! Cheers Sam. Have a good week.

@samsfarminglife7763 Год назад
Hi Keith, thanks, my grandfather always used to say “learn from your mistakes, a clever person learns from other peoples!” Hopefully mild, but considering we’re down 300mm of average rainfall for the year it’ll probably turn up just as we’re thinking we could keep cattle out a little longer! Thanks for the comments and sharing!

We try wherever possible, our New Holland, Ford, and JCB were all made in Britain. Unfortunately one of the biggest deciding factors is price, which can vary by tens of thousands between manufactures for the same specification of tractor.

Sam. Fantastic! What a way to start the day! R4 and Farming Today, followed by your incredible video. Along with Michael, thank you for cow eye 'insight'. What a skill! Full credit to your vet [and you holding her still!] What your video clearly illustrates is never a 'dull' moment in a farmer's life. Any moment come to that. 24/07...365. Add in the constantly increasing overheads. Also, worth noting is that sense of rural community. Farming community and appreciation. As in the apples, barley etc. Try that in some areas of the UK. [By the way the pigs look amazing and healthy.] Your maze is it just me being a 5ft nothing or is that variety quite short? Or is is you're a 6+ footer? Here in NW [Lancashire] with the summer rain we had i swear taller here. Well i can't see above it! Thanks again Sam. Hopefully subscribers will increase...some cute pigs should do it! ... Have a good week and stay safe. More rain and Autumn just around the corner. Cheers.

With what is to come every 'penny' [or should that be pound?] matters. RAIN! At last! Again your illustration of the cracked soil provides an illustration of just how dry the conditions have been for You and farmers in the SW and SE in general. One not to be forgotten. Take it steady! Oddly todays news is all about A Level results and young people going off to University. H'mmm. What you do is real work that benefits us all. This video should be in schools etc to illustrate what it really means to work. Farming and contracting! Winched when you checking the baler. Tired, late and mention of blades! Gulp! Sam, Once again a fantastic insight into 'proper' farming. 24/07. How did You and the Team cope with the heat? Also how do you safeguard, where possible against fires? Forgive me, late to the party but you guys are 'straw and hay merchants? Sell excess to other farmers, equestrian outlets and the like? Can't keep up! Thanks again. Incredible. Oh, Eli bloody brilliant reversing! Cheers.
@samsfarminglife7763
@samsfarminglife7763 2 года назад
We stayed in the air con cabs most of the time 😂strapping and unstrapping was the worst the heat hits you hard when you step out the cab! We buy and sell a little bit of the straw, most is used for bedding or feed. The hay will be sold if we there’s a market for it this year. For the fires; the tractors have fire extinguishers on them, and so does the baler - they’re enough to buy you a bit of time. We just keep radiators clean and blow off any straw/hay caught up around the back ends of the tractor.

Sam. Hello. Another brilliant video. And such an insight. Had not heard of New Forest Eye. [Live in NW England] What hits me and illustrates the 'costs' of farming and livestock [hidden] is your calculation of the costs of treatment. Forgive me but you also have additional vet's fee too. Again, when the 'moaners' start off about the cost of diary or indeed meat, this clearly illustrates what farmers have to contend with. Daily. Plus shows your care for your animals. Again something the ''public'' so easily overlooks. Credit to You. Organic meadows too. Like you not sure about the wild flowers but i should! And the view is jaw-dropping. What a beautiful part of the country you live and farm. Oh and on a personal note You work your *** off! Never stop. 24/07. Farming Life. Thanks again. ''Bloody brilliant''!
