Hey thank you for the video. I've recently purchased a rev 2 and trying to plug my open theremin which pmwoukd be like any theremin from CV out to CV in my rev 2 can have only managed to have the left antenna working not the pitch ( right) would you be able to help me out in any way ? I'm maybe I'm doing something wrong on the rev 2?
@sauce_aux
@sauce_aux 6 месяцев назад
The input the REV2 expects a TRS. Anything I use for CV is TS. That would be my first guess. You would need some sort of coupling adapter, to convert 2 TS signals into a TRS connection. You would probably want to use a cv to midi converter if you want more dedicated cv control. Because even if you have both antennae plugged in with a coupling adapter, the pedal CV input will only respond to one modulator. You would need a second jack for both, the way it stands for this case.
@billytsekeris5817
@billytsekeris5817 6 месяцев назад
@@sauce_aux alright I think I understand what you mean as I am new to this... What if I would like to control the pitch and not the volume ? Do I have to use a Y splitter and connect just the pitch mono? I really want to avoid using a converter .. what do you think? Thank you for the help very much appreciated 🙏
@sauce_aux
@sauce_aux 6 месяцев назад
@@billytsekeris5817 well I don’t think you would need a splitter, but the connection is expecting something like an expression pedal with a ground. They didn’t really design this synth to have a bunch of general CV control. The feature sets are aligned more with active playing. The scaling might be very different than the theremin pitch scaling. Also how do you plan on triggering the envelope while you are using your hands for theremin action? I’m having a hard time seeing how a theremin cv would be effective, when you still have to trigger keys to open envelopes and cycle between oscillators.
@billytsekeris5817

@@sauce_aux I would like to use it more as an effect to accentuate the notes played like this for example ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zTYwFxmpEzI.htmlsi=wEWLfJ2SEJeHYMTJ The only difference is that is not the theremin I'm using and mine had 1 CV out that carries pitch and volume .. I feel like it can be so simple yet so complex 😆 maybe it's in the settings of the rev2 ? What I'm using is called an open theremin V4
@sauce_aux
@sauce_aux 6 месяцев назад
@@billytsekeris5817 just route the “pedal cv”to the filter cutoff, in the mod matrix or global settings. You will only get one value of modulation, but that’s all he has goin on in that video. I was thinking you wanted to play the rev2, with a theremin interface, through the single CV input.

Do you know if it’s possible to send pitch bend and vibrato via mod wheel to the sv-1 from a midi keyboard connected to the synth’s midi in? Thank you!
@sauce_aux
@sauce_aux 8 месяцев назад
Pitch bend is normalized to the pitch wheel CC, vibrato has to be patched, using the LFO and a spare VCA, if you want proper control; but you can select any CC number to output from the midi module. So short answer is, yes and sort of lol

@@sauce_aux given that you’re familiar with the synth and I’m almost fully convinced, I still have some headroom for the Taiga. In my opinion, besides it’s ugly and cluttered looks, it’s quite more versatile and apparently heir tho the sv-1. Of the two, which one would you prefer and why? Thanks!!
@sauce_aux
@sauce_aux 8 месяцев назад
@@rabbitnoize Well I got the SV-1 back in 2016. Taiga wasn’t made until pandemic-era. The only reason I haven’t swapped out is because I have four other racks, full of modules. I can patch anything I need at this point. If you only have one synthesizer voice available though, I would say Taiga is probably the ‘better’ route. I absolutely love the tone of the SV-1, and the filter is one of the absolute best filters, to my ears. That being said, I still needed to add a few more modules into a small rack to get the full force out of it. But bear in mind, just about every synthesizer voice in Modular format, will need/gladly welcome other modules to really open that thing up to its full potential.

@sauce_aux
@sauce_aux Год назад
As far as the patch goes, I hardly remember it haha the midi is coming from Ableton. The SV-1 has a midi-cv converter, so it’s just the midi cable that came with the module. The far right module, next to rings, is Rossum-Electromusic Morpheus. I sold it a couple years ago. I wasn’t too impressed with it, for cost and real estate. The patch is just a drone though. Sv-1 midi is from Ableton, Rings is getting its sequence from an Arturia Beatstep receiving usb midi from Ableton.

Hahahahaha I’m not sure if this is a joke but in case it’s not - DIN is a sync format that predates midi. The terms these days, can be somewhat interchangeable. Although keep in mind, they are different. The rev2 will just say “rev2” as that is the device name. My midi interface has a DIN 1 & 2, so that may be what you’re seeing in my Ableton menu. I use good ol’ midi cables and a MIDI patch matrix, ‘cuz I don’t have enough USB ports.

REV2 is my main poly synth, although I have P10, and OB6 as well. The reason I am always grabbing REV2 first is versatility and for the most part , bi-timbral mode. You get two independent layers, you can choose how many voices you are using per layer, stack them or split them. It is very important to understand how to set up MIDI from DAW to control both layers. It would be complete waste not to use layers and second set of outputs, this synth is literally two in one. While effects are ok, and I tend to add some delays and chorus per layer, I do suggest you go with a pedal or dedicated reverb plugin if ou want deep control over reverb, shimmer effects etc.

You can use a different effect for each layer. You should be able to do something like, a chorus on one layer and a distortion on the other. But yeah, only 1 effect, per layer. The fx are independent, per layer so sadly, if you want the effect from layer 1, on layer two, you have to duplicate the settings. If you want a master effect, I would just use a pedal before the synth hits the mixer. The pro3 on the other hand, has 2 fx, but only one voice layer.

Would you say the rev2 was a fun instrument to work with? I can get a lot of good sounds out of just about any synth but what matters to me is the quality of the instrument and how it functions, and its immediacy of patch creation. The Cobalt8 is a great example - pretty capable synth but it feels like a toy , cheap knobs, i just cant connect with it. thanks!
@sauce_aux
@sauce_aux 3 года назад
Honestly that cobalt seems very cool for the price, but agreed, it does have a little bit of a flimsy character to the construction. The Rev is a high quality professional instrument for sure. Made well, and backed by a great company. Super fun to use, and I tend to get a great connection with the Key bed and my fingers. I’m originally a guitar player, and I wanted an instrument that was akin to that experience. The Rev will do MANY things, but it really shines when you play it.
