Sounds incredible on all positions, but the 2 meter and 6 meter room mic sound is amazing! I'd love to here close mics and overheads with the R88 as a room mic. Awesome man!
Hello. Nice video. Do you remember if you recorded with the Hi-Z button engaged on the SSL VHD pres? I think it changes the impedance from 1.2 to 10K ohms... Thanks.
This helps, even though I have had the mic for years, am a drummer, to hear them back to back saves me time experimenting. Well done, thanks, and I have a Mel Lewis to boot!
thank you very much. Very room sound awesome, (and you play great too) however, i find that on the 2 OH position, the snare is a bit off centerd (Right side) the mic is also, I wonder why ? When you raise close mics potentialy you could have some stereo imaging issues. By the way, it is not the purpose of the video
Killer comparison! Beta 52 is still my favorite kick mic, but this video proves the SM57 is one everyone should have haha. I use the United FET47 and it’s a little less midrange-heavy than the warm one sounds. I do prefer a 47 style mic a little further away from the kick and with a resonant head. You get more length from the kick that way.
Sounds great and that mic setup is sick! How do you typically place your overheads? Is this a decca / 3 mic setup, all just equidistant from the snare? It sounds awesome!
Overhead placement depends on the song. If I need a warm full sound I will go for the Coles. Recording man setup or stereo . For some extra ‘air’ I like to put a mono condensor mic in the middle. For some slick and snappy sounds I’d like to go for a stereo overhead setup with Neumann Km185. For the extra focus sounds. And then in the middle a ribbon of the body of the snare. A few months ago I bought the Chandler Limited TG microphone. That’s now my go to mic for over the shoulder.
Wow, awesome vid! Love it! Love the Kit Close position as well as the 1m position. Also as a overhead, this mic is great! Nice playing, nice comparison, thank you!
Thank you for sharing. This was fun!! I've been at this recording stuff for decades, with great success. But your video was refreshing , confirming that the player , the room , and a sweet mic like this is where its at. Very smart :)
Really don't have a clue. No brand to be found, but I think its a Majestic. I will post a new video soon with this snare. The mix of this video is really crap
