All things must come to an end. The drag strip was originally located in Dickson and relocated to Baytown. I believe the one in Dickinson was open for around thirty years.
Born and raised in Houston, went to the NHRA Sring Nationals every April. Went to the last NHRA event last year just to see it one more time. Sad to see it go.
Me too. I remember when they started bulldozing the field. Burning down all the brush. There was a dirt road approximately where the entrance to the parking lot is now . Used to go down that road with my friends goofing around . I never thought they were one day built a racetrack there.
this breaks my hearts my dad and uncles who some have passed would go there every wednesday night in the early 2000s and every mopar national event we were there all 7 of there cars #lowbuks...this my 2nd home away from home cause i made sure i wanted to go every chance
The gospel is simple. Jesus Christ, who is God in human form, died on the cross for the sins of every person. He was buried and rose again three days later. Eternal life is a free gift. it’s received, by faith (trust) in Christ alone. it’s not earned. Jesus said in John 6:47, Truly, truly, I say to you, he that believes in me has everlasting life. If you look at that promise from Jesus & believe it, then you are saved forever. once saved, always saved. Salvation can never be lost! Trust Jesus alone and forever live
really interesting video! Thanks for taking the time and effort to post! Let me know when you've posted the Houston fireworks display off Katie Freeway.
I have been going there since I was a little kid. My grandfather had a race car, and we went there every Friday, I still have his trophy he won back in 96 from Houston Raceway Park.
I did exactly what he did at Orange County International Raceway not long after they closed it. Heartbreaking. I see the timing equipment is gone, but I wonder if they don't at least try to sell the grandstands.
THIS SUCKS!!! Maybe I am ;ate to learning this. I remember the first passes by Darrell Gwynn here at this track-an immediate record! This is happening too much to the sport despite its burgeoning popularity...truly sad!
This is depressing. My father brought me here the first week that it opened when I was 7 years old. I had been going ever since and can attribute this drag strip as the reason why I got into photography. At 13 years old, I was coming here with a point and shoot film camera and documenting every event. I have so many photos of cars in the pits and on the drag strip over the years. I was at TX2K this year and it was a sad week. Thank you for documenting this and posting it.
