I’ve been a martial artist for the past 34 years. I remember back in Fall of 1994 my hapkido dojang drove up to Flint, Michigan from Georgia for a seminar. GM Yang Choon Sik was there. I was 18 and a 1st guy red belt at the time. I was always a kicker. He wanted to demonstrate the speed of some of the Kuk Sool techniques he was teaching. He pulled me up to the front of the house and said “ kick me. Kick me hard!” I tried 3 times round kicking him in the head and he struck me 3-4 times before I could get my let up to him. He’s awesome great memories!

It doesn`t look like much on camera, but to have it done to you, hurts like hell! You have no idea unless you are a student of KUK SOOL WON. You know how much pain that is felt from these simple looking grabs! Pressure points will put you on the floor begging for mercy! It hurts bad!!

I met grand master SUH at my KUK SOOL WON school in Davison Michigan many yrs ago. He was super human! He told me that skill is not the issue, but spirit. The spirit is the force of power in a man and if the spirit is strong, the man will be strong. To be nothing but skill will not win without spirit. For the pain is fought in blood but the spirit is fought in spirit. Therefore the spirit which is strongest will shed more blood than the weak in spirit. That moved me greatly and helped me get my black belt! He was truly wise and one of a kind!!

1 thing people should realize is that if they didn't flip like that they would have broken wrists. The kuk sool won wrist locks are quite real and painful.

Grandmaster Liu also studied Yang Tai-Chi Chuan under GM Xiong Yangho (1889-1981) who was a student of Yang Shau-Hou, the (much) older brother of Yang Cheng Fu, and also one of Formosa's most distinguished Taoist, Patriarch Peizhong Liu of the Kunlun Sect. Truly a disciplined master.

After seven years of training, I learned KSW is laughable and is simply a demonstration system more than anything. Good teachers of hapkido are also rare but are better than the dictatorial and money-hungry WKSA.

In a real street fight no opponent is going to have a weak wrisk you can manipulate so easy Matter of fact martial arts are defense techniques you can use if the situation permit. Good street fighters are not niece to allow themselves to be beat so easy by karate techniques.

The tai chi teacher is unimportant, the lineage is also unimportant. There is a movement that makes it tai chi you either have it or you don't. Tai chi's origin is way older than anyone could find records, and is quoted in historic works before the flood. And the manuscripts of the founding of the ancient temple's. What is practiced now is mostly boat boxing mixed with Tai chi principals. The performers are doing a set of exercises that are tools strung together into a long form, it is called the two person set. It is not grand push hands, liniar push hands. It is many groups like grasp sparrows hand, that have been put together for convenience of practice. In now knowing what the form is does it matter what liniage, or teacher the person had? Of corse it doesn't because he is showing his tool box. Now if he was doing grand push hands, or liniar push hands knowing what teacher or liniage he came from would be important because they would have a tool box that was unseen and by knowing what teacher or liniage a person that is trained would know what's in there tool box? So therefore the comments are kinda dumb guys?

Lee Won-kuk (1907-2003) is considered by some to be the founder of taekwondo. He was one of the first Koreans to study karate in Japan and he established the first school of tangsoodo (and what would eventually become taekwondo) in Seoul, Korea in 1944. He would also exert a profound influence on the development of the art through his instruction of many of the future leaders of taekwondo (Kang & Lee, 1999: Chapter 1, Section 1; Lee, 1997; Massar & St. Cyrien, 1999).

It is what you make it, kuk sool won covers a lot of different aspects so it does take a long time to learn. The techniques give you good basis which when combined with other arts such as kick boxing and jujitsu it's fairly devastating .

The only issue is it has never been tested in battle, if so where 1,500 years ago... I dont think so. It takes so many years to learn it in order to make it effective. And is with most Korean systems it plagued with old time politics. There are so many other Korean systems out there that are so much more effective than this. I am glad I left the system its so easy to counter attack....
@wolf_ghosty9619

soo considiring you have that mind set of it never have been tested in battle riiight since its not a ancient martial art so if you think like that you will also say mma is rubbish or even hapkido its not because its a newer art its rubbish kuk sool has many aspects like what mark said but also in a fight its not your style art that will win your fight for you its you the fighter who has to make the most out of his skill set
@christopherkwong2485
@christopherkwong2485 7 лет назад
3228000 you can't say it isn't effective because if you did then all other martial arts would be ineffective. For a martial arts to be effective it depends on the person and wether they know how to use it effectively. You probably quit before advance level which means you were still just learning the fundamentals and even if you did get to advance level you were most likely doing it wrong

This is why I need more practice, I've met KukSaNim and he is kind and awesome. The ki-breathing has also improved my health, verified by my doctor, so its not a fake art. And these negative comments, this is why I hate it when people down this martial art i've tried evading these techniques but when Strength+Technique are combined one of these situational techniques will get you when you least expect it, so there is not really any "Resistance" unless you have really good awareness. So for and end comment for all of the fellow KukSoolWon students who understand this phrase "WE NEED MORE PRACTICE" and have a very good day!!
