Gainesville for some reason has this very depressing aura. I visited for a meeting that the UF chapter for my club was hosting. Stayed the night and then had a mental breakdown because my family was pressuring to go to UF for my masters and "this place sucks" lol. Got the spine to tell them no and fingers crossed I can continue here at USF!
For me it was just because I didn’t focus on putting an effort on making friends. If you join orgs/clubs and try to put yourself out there you’ll definitely make friends. Everyone is pretty open and nice from what I’ve experienced. Definitely not hard as a sophomore, lots of people transfer as a sophomore and are still trying to find themselves at that point so will be open to new friendships!

@@lennyjuice2261 I honestly didn’t have ut on my radar because it’s more expensive since it’s a private university. But there campus is gorgeous tho. USF is a sweet deal for in state residence
I had the same reasons for not wanting to go to a college town with such limited options. Went to NYC for this reason then eventually moved to Tampa - you’re so right it’s nice having this Tampa Bay area with a lot of different things to do within each different area!
It’s a great school. Definitely have to try to get into advising early on, especially if you’re biology, premed. That has been a complaint. You do have to take charge of that. No one is going to call you and walk you through it. I’ve heard the class structure is longer and better than UF (more time to absorb a topic or ask a few questions). I work nearby and agree the area is a bit sketch and just be super aware of surroundings, and preferably don’t walk alone at night or off campus. It is not easy to find on campus work if you don’t have a car. That seems to be a common complaint of people with no cars. There’s plenty of work 5-10 minute drive from campus. Restaurants, Busch Gardens and the zoo Tampa are popular places for students to work. Lots of stuff to do, shopping entertainment and beaches within 30- 45 minutes drive. I heard Some new busses are now available to take students to beach but I’m not familiar with that.
I really really appreciate your content, I’m in cc right now and transferring next year and usf is one of my options! It’s funny because I was originally a marketing major but switched to medical science and these science classes are killing me 😭💕
