The oil was spil by the massively modified green Nissan. Honestly, in such expensive track days they should not allow things like that. The day before I parked next to it and we smell it was burning oil.. but I never thought it could go so wrong on day 2. Oil and water was a great mixture I allost lost the car a couple of times..
Yeah we saw, at least he had the common sense to pack up and leave right after lol. Honestly no idea why Darren feels the need to allow cars like that. The event is oversubscribed anyway without "race cars" that are simply 20 times more likely to create an issue like this. No benefit for the trackday only more risks with cars like that. I mean it was barely a Nissan anymore - just a home built spaceship tuned to within an inch of its life.
@@JCviggen1 a few discussions were had around this. At the end of the day, whether it's an E46 or E92 M3, 997 GT3RS etc, any car can drop coolant or oil or blow a hose. I think GT4RSs have blown oil hoses too. Admittedly, I think the likelihood of it happening is higher when it's a highly modified car ... but luck of the draw really. I'd agree no race cars, but it is what it is - plenty of other track days available
@@greyhobbit Oh sure, at the end of the day there are no certainties and DN have been pretty good generally. I just don't see what the race cars are adding to the day quality wise since they end up taking at least twice as much space in the parking lot as well. Actually there's very few trackdays available that have an acceptable number of entries for me... so there's only DN pro track and MR (hard to get into) since Gran Turismo is at the wrong time of the year for me
@@greyhobbit Not anymore (it was last year) now it has headers and a remap but that doesn't do much at the altitude that the Nordschleife is at unfortunately. Since I did pretty much the lap best time I could with the car +/- stock last year I went with the MR kit + power upgrades this year. I reckon the car will be 5-6s faster when all is said and done but there was no opportunity to get that performance out of it on this particular trackday... lost a lot of time on day 1 sadly (and it was too warm in the afternoon anyway for records). Considering I was rusty early in the AM and the traffic I'm surprised it was sub-7 at all so the car must've gotten quicker.
Sorry to hear your woes. Looked pretty stiff on that lap, skittering on the bumps. Did they soften the rear end? Do you know what adjustments Manthey made?
They softened everything quite a bit, just damping. They never say exactly what they changed but I can go and look at the settings obviously. More compliant now, still not really soaking up bumps but not launching off them anymore. I wasn't planning on any records but didn't get much testing done either. I reckon the car is probably about 5s a lap quicker now than last year though.
Very nice lap - the time seemed to keep coming off, and still with a few hold ups. Frustrating with the car issues / closures. Usually either too busy/red flag/car issues… having a GT3 is meant to cut down on the last one, but I guess not immune!
@16valver yeah in this case it's the modifications that created the issue, putting on the MR coilovers means you have to fool the car into thinking the stock dampers are still there and that system failed
@ssssjjj Hard to say when not running them on the same day, brand new the pirelli may be a tad faster but overall the Nankang is better all round and lasts a lot longer
@radical_driver I'll ask them but my guess is around 3 front 2.7-2.8 rear. They call it "agressive setup" for cup2r. I don't know how it works on Nordschleife 🤷♂️ I changed rear sway bar from middle to soft setting because car was too unstable
Well done ! You are showing the potential of a 991.2 GT3 ... 8 years conception and 2.30 ... ok !!! Is there a faster lap with a manual gearbox in SPA ? (I mean non racing cars) modern GT3 could be faster but old one's are still
Absolutely loved this! I'm curious- do you find the 991.2 challenging to be consistent on each push lap? Cause I'm interested in how many attempts you had, and what the average delta was in your laptimes
I find it very consistent on these tires, it's the tire more than anything that decides this. Cup2R is faster on the first lap but then drops off in pace. Mostly I was improving by finding out later braking points etc. throughout the session. Probably 7-8 laps
You had Ehresmann ECU tuning, right? Good for 15HP or so? Was it noticeable during driving or not worth it? You coupled it with over axle pipes without resonators?
Not sure 🤔 Manthey set it up. I guess its around 3.0/2.7 more or less. Spa has some new asfalt, faster lap times than before. I think minimum 1.5 seconds faster - but very difficult to pick the braking point into bus stop because there are no lines or bumps to remember anymore. Just black asfalt. Cup 2R lap will be posted next week I think 🙈
Useful life of the Nankang is pretty long. Cup 2 thread will last longer but it will be driving on wood after a bunch of heat cycles. I always ended up throwing away cup2 that still "looked" very good because they became so damn slow as they aged. The Nankang seems to hold up its performance well with cycling and wearing down.
@@JCviggen1 Did you have a comparison to the AR-1? I used the AR-1 on the 996 GT3 and by buying the correct sizes the tyre was too narrow and wear was quite bad in the back where all the weight is in a 911.
@DenfMotorsports I never tried the AR-1 because indeed it's a bit too narrow and I didn't see people being that crazy about them on the 991. The CR-S fills out the 12" rear wheel pretty well.
Exemplary drive line on Spa for all us 991.2 GT3 drivers that still prefer the manual to the ‘boring’ PDK! Pretty impressive how you go up the Raidillon and don’t go below 190 I still have to see GT3RS drivers being able to do that 😂
The exit speed from Raidillon is over 190 which launches this car to + 260 km/h at the end of the Kemmel straight. I drive the same car, manual, my exit speed is at best 180 and I get to 258 on the straight with the stock tires. This 4.0 flat six is fantastic l, no need for any mod. 😊
@@S25117 Oh yes. I've driven straight past 992 RS in the past there. My car kind of "sucks" in high speed corners but on the straights I don't have the huge aero drag either
Unbeliveable laptime, what else to say 🏎️ Now show us the Cup 2 R laptime, I guess low 2:30 or maybe even high 2:29 could be achievable. If not, then the CR-S is very good indeed. Btw. did you use to be pro driver?
Cheers! All in good time :D You're not wrong with your estimates, unfortunately a Cup2R has 1 mega lap in it right out of the box and you're always "learning" on that lap so hard to get the most out of it. The guessing braking points didn't help, there was half a sec or so left in it but pretty chuffed with the result regardless.
