As has happened to so many brilliant and gifted musicians, toward the end of their lives they could no longer engage in creating music. Physical limitations due to deteriorating health and bodily afflictions prevented them from dling so. Toward the end of his life, Being so restricted from playing the piano was Moore's deepest regrets. We are all poorer, as well.
The Dudley Moore Trio were perhaps the best Jazz group of their time, yet they get so little airtime now on the mainstream media. I hope these RU-vid sessions reach a new and younger audience.
Just discovered this and play it every day - a supremely gorgeous piece, beautifully executed - timeless. Dudley seems to have gone under the radar in popular memory regarding his jazz piano playing - it is top drawer. I'm looking for more.
Truly Sublime and definitely not the worst job he’s ever had. The drummer was in a trance listening to Dud’s playing. Some parts remind me of Herbie H. Love the little repeating riff near the end, could see that DM was enjoying it. Gotta check out more of Dudley Moore’s music, remember seeing him perform on TV and knew he was a maestro on the keys. P E A C E : )
His musical talents deserve no comment from someone less deserving from someone who can’t play FA but appreciate it all the same, and fecking love his comedy all the same. God bless you Dud xxx
Hey retro, I like to think of him playing in a little jazz club in the after-life, like The Establishment owned by Peter Cook, with Pete sitting at the bar with Jeffrey Bernard, George Shearing (now able to see, perfectly), Ronnie Scott, Humphrey Littleton and me!
I am a DJ and a soundtrack vinyl collector .... and I always say, this is possible the best soundtracks of the 1960s... and a funny thing is... the film was made at St John's Wood studio... and I went to school next door to it... I do so love this movie...
My dad was friends with Dudley and saw many of his club gigs in london. He says the best of Dudleys playing is forever undocumented because in those days, Dudley sounded like Oscar Peterson. he was just THAT AMAZING on piano and Electric Piano.
@@jsims149 Ditto. Im now listening to the Dudley More Trio album from 1969 - Holy Shit, his left hand is stupid-incredible. hes doing 32nd note chord shapes in his left hand without a break while keeping a melody flowing with his right. ill NEVER be able to left hand comp like that. Dudely was a monster!
For years this was my favorite movie!! Dudley Moore and Peter Cook were such geniuses... and of course Dudley Moore was one of the great pianist/composers of the 20th century.
Holy Crapoly! This knocked me off my feet!! I was looking for a YT post of the original Bedazzled with Peter and Dudley and I found this. Wow! I hope they recorded a album of Dedley's playing.
I could hear Peter Cook "singing" the words in my head while this is played. Have always been a huge fan of Duds music and his best movie in my opinion was "Bedazzled."
What a talented man he was. The tips of his fingers had butterflies on them. He gave so much enjoyment to people. Then to suffer and die like he did. When I watched his last interview - it hurt my heart. Made me so sad.
Great composition, sensitive and soulful performance, attentive audience, nice camera work, vintage black and white footage. Doesn't get much better, really.
