Tindersticks' new album 'Soft Tissue' is out September 13th on City Slang/Lucky Dog.
Tindersticks were one of the most original and distinctive British acts of the '90s, standing apart from both the British indie scene and the rash of Brit-pop guitar combos that dominated the U.K. charts. Where their contemporaries were often direct and to the point, Tindersticks were obtuse and leisurely, crafting dense, difficult songs layered with literary lyrics, intertwining melodies, mumbling vocals, and gently melancholy orchestrations. Essentially, the group filtered the dark romanticism of Leonard Cohen, Ian Curtis, and Scott Walker through the bizarre pop songcraft of Lee Hazlewood and the aesthetics of indie rock.
Stuart A. Staples is a Valentines Day baby like me. we were conceived on Valentines Day.... 9 months later... King Charles too..... our birthdays are November 14th
In 1997, when "Curtains" was released, I'd thought that was the end of Tindersticks, hence the title. Three fascinating albums and nothing more, what a statement it would have been. After "Waiting for the Moon", I have almost no impression of the last 20 years of the band. _"I look at the gray house opposite and close the curtains."_ Just saying.
Seeing them play live in 1998 at the Paredes de Coura festival....it was fantastic and I remained a fan to this day and in November this year I hope to enjoy the concert...Casa da Musica in Porto, Portugal again!!!
Willow Where are you hiding now Willow Where are you hiding now In the [?] light [?] in the tree Spiders and a centipede Crawl across your hands Across your knees Willow Do you walk across the sand Willow Till the waves crash and fall And their fingers tickle At your feet [?] Do you feel that rushing forward Though you're standing still Willow Are we rushing forward, are we standing still? Willow Are we rushing forward, are we standing still? Willow Do you crouch among the rooftops Willow Listening to a city wheezing And your dreams they stretch Beyond the clouds and pass the moon Until the stars feel the rushing forward Though you're standing still Willow Are we rushing forward, are we standing still? Willow Does this love hold a destination, willow D'you feel the wind running through your hair Willow Feel the sun upon your back [?] breath, an abyss
