Looks great, but I don't understand how to travel with such a beast. With my normal car, I can easily camp behind a bush or something, or even hide in plain sight on a parking lot. But with a truck, it seems difficult to park overnight anywhere but at a dedicated camp site?
It’s a good question, but in reality it depends on where you want to go. If you plan to spend time in and around cities it is not the right vehicle choice. But we prefer wild places and out of the way spots, and we hunt out areas and parking places where we can go. There are many resources to help find parking spots, it’s just a question of using them.
Hey Jack, the living quarters box was built by Motorcraft’s Adventure Developments in England - near Doncaster. Give them a shout and they’ll get you sorted on the right path.
LOL Nobody can pass an opportunity like that by without giving it a go. The eternal child inside us all always wins. Continue to have fun and share it, please. 😇
Would you mind explaining what you are doing about toll roads & vignettes in countries please? Are you avoiding the tolls & motorways as I am planning a trip to Bulgaria in a 5 ton Campervan. Austria & it's Go Box seems a nightmare. Thank you
Sure! Countries with tollbooth toll roads we take if we want to move more quickly. If not, we route around them. Slovenia had an eVignette but for trucks it’s like the Bulgaria one I think where you need to get a box in the cab. Since we were only in Slovenia for a couple of days we skipped it and routed around the toll roads - Sygic has an option to avoid toll roads in routing. It’s really case by case - we don’t want to drive toll roads as they’re mostly boring, so if we can avoid them we will. But if we’re aiming for a specific point and can use a toll road easily, then maybe we will. It’s ironic that the toll boxes are meant to be easier, and if you live there, they are. But if you’re passing through it’s a bit of a pain compared to a tollbooth on the road! 🤷♂️
It's funny but I had one of those locks go bad and after a look on RU-vid I learned that you can just jam a large screw driver in there and turn the lock such that you can then push the button to open the compartment. Just saying for next time.
I’ve heard of this screwdriver trick with these locks, but with half the key in there I didn’t think it would work. And besides, having an excuse to get the power tools out is always welcome!! 🤣🤣🙌
It’s a very good point. Unfortunately there are some bad apples in the cart who dump black waste, leave rubbish everywhere and seem to actively avoid trying to put anything in to the local economy and they give everyone else a bad name. The flip side is that some people just don’t like campers - they’ve chosen, or have been lucky enough, to live in a beautiful area and they don’t want it crawling with tourists making it hard for them to go about their daily lives. It’s a very tough balancing act. In Slovenia’s defence - they do have commune-provided camper parking spaces in some areas to help bring campers to the area. Kranj was one of two such places we stopped in as we went through.
WHAATT?! You just flew the drone THROUGH the camper window and out the door?!! NICE. Great drone work!! Oh no. Drill sounds like a plan. Jim says it is a lot of work to do, and takes a lot of patience, so well done! As our friends say "this life of full time travel is fixing things in beautiful places" 😊😊 - Jim & Michelle
Yeah, Dave has been flying a DJI Avata 2 FPV for a little bit now and he’s getting better and better with it, but in his words “so much more learning to do!” Makes a change to the more common drone scenic shots that he shoots on the Mini 3 Pro. “Fixing things in beautiful places” 🤣 I think we’ll be re-using that line somewhere down the road 🙌🙌🤣
To be fair Dave, I’d say that was a pretty naff key to break in such a manner. Well done though. A bit of lube strayed whilst drilling might have sped up the operation. As to the “hair mouse” I’m sure you contributed to it too as you ain’t no Duncan Goodhew. So, I’m calling “unfair” on that Calamity Jess accusation!!!
Love the new intro 😇 That drone fly-through! Just amazing. I'm running out of superlatives to compliment your videos. Keys are not made as they used to be 🤣
Which is why in Slovenia we only parked in actual commune provided camper parking places rather than wild camping. And is also why we moved through Slovenia quickly.
Absolutely loving watching your weekly videos!! Those views look insane, we're adding those Austrian mountains to our must visit! Can't wait for more ❤
I have joked to my girlfriend while underway with our truck that I feel like the mechanic on an ocean cruise ship. 'A light is out in bedroom 284!' 'On my way'. 'Waterfiler in kitchen probably needs a clean!' 'On my way' 'The window squeaks while opening at a specific angle and speed' 'Grrrr...."
I’m really enjoying following your journey. Great balance of getting out and about, truck tech, and my favourite the photography. It’s great to have a woman’s perspective on truck / over landing life as I’m trying to convince my wife that this is worth it. Safe travels. 😊
This is good to hear! There’s so much about “life on the road” and trying to figure out what everyone wants to know is hard, so mixing in bits of different things hopefully keeps it interesting. 🤞🙏🏻
I have been following you since the start, i bought a man hx 60 as well. It would have been great if you did a full video in depth about the service. ❤
Noted! We will do a full in-depth service at some point, but since we went through it this time quite quickly with limited time we couldn’t do the whole thing in detail.
Wonder if the number of subscribers would increase if Jess opened the episode saying "We are Otis, Islay, Jess and the other bloke" 😂 Nah, just kidding. Lovely stuff again, guys. Stunning locations and fantastic photography. How the heck you are not yet on 50K subs is beyond me. Again, thanks for the video and look forward to more Otis next week 😇
Stunning drone work, photos and video. Loved the "nearly tiny world" 360 shot of coming around the curve. The strudel looked delicious! I can't believe you biked it, then went back up again in the rig! The views are definitely worth it though. Beautiful time lapse of the clouds. How fun to meet up with friends! This is really an incredible location to photograph and hike. New subscribers! - Michelle
The strudel was delicious indeed… and we may have eaten more than one helping in the days we were there!! 🤣 Glad you enjoyed the content and Dave’s pictures and videos. Thanks for subscribing too 🙏🏻🙏🏻
First of all, thanks for the extra dose of Otis this week. Second, I'll never again take another photograph in my life. You put me to shame, Dave. What stunning shots this week. Absolute premium stuff. I reckon this channel is on the verge of getting 200K extra subscribers very soon. Thanks for the content.
Thanks so much, Wagner! Dave is quite handy with a camera and when he gets chance he turns in some pretty impressive pics (just don't tell him I said that!) If you want to see more....there's a mid-week special about to drop ;-) Extra Otis was just for you! If you know where to find some of those extra 200k subscribers we'd be very grateful! 🤞
The dolomites are epic 🙌🙌🙌 awesome video!!! The footage is insane, felt like we were there hiking with you ❤ isla and oti on the chair lift was a win! 🎉
