VOGTLAND OUTDOORS is a handful of guys in northeastern Illinois who all met at Blackwell Forest Preserve (free) Archery Range years & years ago, discovered they all loved archery (all types) and fishing (all types), and just want to share what they've learned about archery, bow building (all types) and shooting, as well as fly fishing, fly casting, fly tying, spey casting & skagit casting and even micro-skagit casting, and all kinds of outdoor craft as well :-) ...
MOST archers CLOSE their non-dominant eye. But - as with PISTOL SHOOTERS - each person must do what feels natural for THEM. FYI, you're not really sighting/looking "through" the bowstring; rather you're sighting down the left EDGE of the bowstring - I made several videos on this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mcykHJUT60o.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9zuZ7c0KnAQ.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LtGrXt_rJBI.html Cheers! -Mark Vogt | VOGTLAND OUTDOORS
Huh not bad. Im new to bows and recently bought a recurve with 40lb draw to get started. Pretty good 60second lesson. It seem to be fairly simple to understand. Hope to check out some full length videos for more info thanks
So just found you, technique is extremely interesting and can't wait to try. Only thing is, I shoot off the shelf, no arrow rest or plunger. Bare bare bow. So will I use that same 3.5 finger gap for 10yards. My knock point is .5 inches above center line (off of shelf). Thank you sir!
Let’s head out west and see what you can do past 20 I’m not saying this isn’t viable I’m just saying as a hunter out west it makes sense to have the most efficient and accurate bow you can when hunting big game
The method of Howard Hill and the method of Horace Ford are the traditional methods. Everything else is horseshit. Go back to your compound bow, pencil arrows, mechanical release and optical sight.
Cool tip. Unfortunately string walkin is not allowed for my NASP shooters. It appears that you're making sure your bow is vertical. How does this change if someone cants their bow while shooting?
Are you using your left eye or both? I'm really interested in how you shoot. I just don't understand because the camera is always behind you. Please do a camera angle from back, left and right. I would really like to see exactly how you do this. Thanks
Your limbs are made to be pulled back evenly not with a stronger pull on the top so the fancier your bow is they will strech and shrink limbs according to if you shoot split finger or 3 under just so you are getting centered on the string
Squirrel will sound like a deer sometimes. Do you pay attention to the wind? Can’t fool a whitetail’s nose especially if you’re bow hunting on the ground.
That knock point is way too high and his grip is too off center. "Sighting" like that only works at 1 exact range. Any farther and you just have to guess your hold over. And that "small motion relesase" was no different than any finger release, but the string still has to roll over his fingers, creating left to right movement. You can compensate for that, but it's not zero error. And most importantly, the main function of a compound is that you can pull 80 lbs but only need to hold 15. That recurve gets harder and harder the farther back you pull, and then you gotta hold it all. Don't get me wrong, i love traditional shooting, but nothing in this video is correct. This guy has no clue what he's doing.
Greetings Bob ! SHORT ANSWER: Yes - but on this riser the SHELF works perfectly fine, and required NO arrow rest :-) Cheers, -Mark Vogt | VOGTLAND OUTDOORS
Compounds require a lot less skill and practice to get good with though. Within a month I was getting 2-3 inch groupings at 40 yards. Doing the same on a recurve would take years
I have tried and tried gap shooting. Never could get it to work. I am all instinct shooter, I don't even aim my pistols. That's cool and good explanation.
