I'd day that way is for people who have a lot of punching power but also good form and well developed forearm muscles to hold a tight fist. For beginners I'd recommend a wrapping style with less knuckle padding and more support of the middle hand and wrist to prevent boxer's fracuture of the meta carpal. But to each his own
the key point is: - protect the knuckle (upper) as much as you can - the palm doesnt need much protections since it wont touch anything - the wrap between your finger just to keep the upper tight - do wrap your thumb a bit more if you need
