You really need to open a computer in your life and dig in it. The old time of the 486SX25 is over man. There are no such legend that your operating system updates during a task anymore. Protocole Ethernet has largely replaced the very old parallel port. Using multithreading allows you to come back to your CAD on spot while the machine is milling, a computer allows you to manage a cad file of 1To, full 3D, I know at least one "industrial system" that is not capable to handle it. No company holding you by the balls with some proprietary system that they are the only ones to control and update, so you can migrate anytime to another system. Computers CPU+GPU is unlikely to be reach in terms of power and flexibility.
Thank you peter for the comment 5th generation CNC machines can connect a PC front end to its dedicated controller for easy file management and virtual support. Our customers have the option to disconnect the PC front end at any time but lose virtual capabilities. All CNC operations run from the dedicated controller. Don't feel discouraged, check all details before cancelling your approach, I'm still building it even after all the warnings, there are a lot other belt utilization methods, not for heavy duty applications ofcourse, but it's still usable for plasma cutter, wood engraving/carving milling and laser operations.

Building a custom CNC router for cutting highly abrasive material with even more abrasive dust of it. I just can’t use a ball screw or even a air cooled tool spindle. So if you have special applications, think beyond “industry standards”
