You better treat the cut portion of bulb with hydrogen peroxide and fungicide to prevent bulb rot. The way you plant the bulb after cutting into two is not right method.
Mine survived the winter in New York I planted them in fall they survived the fall the winter the spring and finally died in late July when it got too hot but they did drop seeds and I have miniature plants that are starting to come back in the fall already
