My name is Justin and welcome to my RU-vid Channel! Here I turn my passion for guitar into making fun and educational videos for you guys. My two biggest inspirations are John Mayer and John Frusciante, so most of my content revolves around those two. I take the years of research I have put into their sound and gear and try and help you guys sound like, or at least get closer to sounding like, your heroes. I also provide a bit of a look into my own guitar journey, and will continue expand that as I grow because I am still learning and figuring things out along with you guys. I originally wanted to keep my channel more separate from my personal self but this has become a big part of my life and I felt like I should fully embrace that. It was the best decision as the community that has started from this is amazing. Thank you for reading. I hope you have learned from and enjoyed the content I am bringing. It's only going to get better from here. Justin
Thanks to Ethan who pointed out Honey was used briefly durning the New Orleans Jazz Fest in May of 2023. Other than that, still nothing else that I can point to for use in 2023 or 2024 for that matter! 13:12
To me, the Klon, then the Centura, then the Ikon. I currently own the Ikon and think it's a great pedal. But with price point in mind I would easily pick the Centura. It actually sounded better in some instances. Again as I said I own the Ikon and Im not sure why there is so much hiss and noise. Not sure if its the Two Rock or the chain, but I don't ever remember having that noise on the Ikon even and super loud levels.
You didn't know a guitar could sound like that!? Until Mayer?!! What about SRV, or Jimi Hendrix!! Jesus u younger kids need help or maybe it's your younger parents who don't know music🤦♂️
i think its mainly because he has his own radio show on Sirius. I listen daily at work and came to the realization the other day. He talks a lot on that show and has even jammed once
The infamous Paul McCartney .594 strikes again! I think if I hear someone else call them McCartney models again, I'll hurl! I don't think some even realize they're pronouncing it wrong? From what I've gathered recently. The McCarty name is being very tightly monetized. With anyone using it without permission, being immediately contacted by their attorneys. Danger Will Robinson.
I think the 58/15's are the perfect pickup for a 3 in a row layout. As they're relatively low output. This should theoretically impart less magnetic pull on the strings. Genius move. Bravo!
Definitely not stock pickups. I tend to believe the guitar tech. But if don’t care about the pickups I just love the sound that John gets out of the Strat.
Hey Justin, nice job! I recently saw the video of JM in 2005 soloing at Farm Aid with Buddy Guy. I thought the tone was really interesting. Do you think that was just TS and slapback delay?
Hi Everyone, I am trying to find out what speakers John Mayer is using in his speaker cabinets in the 2019 World Tour and 2022 Sob Rock Tour. 2019 World Tour - He's using two 2x12 cabs and one 1x12 cab. 2022 Sob Rock Tour - He's using two 1x12 cabs and one 2x12 cab. There seems to be no definitive answers for this. I did see online he was using an EVM12L in the single 12 cab in the sob rock tour and weren't sure what was in the rest. If anyone could shed some light on this would be great. TIA
Cool video! As big of a guitar nerd as I am, I've seen John five times and in concert I never once gave any thought to which guitar he was playing on which song, because they all sounded fantastic. That said, I am a big fan of the Silver Sky. Not as a player - I prefer a thinner neck. But the fact that John asked Fender to make some changes for him and they wouldn't do it so he left, and Paul came in and said roughly "We will work with you and use your ideas." And the Silver Sky got trashed at first as a Strat copy, but then it became a hit, and THEN they put out the SE version and it outsold everything else on the market. Players who want to be like John can get a used SE for $600. Are there sonic differences between his guitars? Sure. But I love that a kid can get a good copy of John's guitar for not much money. It is for that reason that I like John playing Silver Sky guitars on stage.
Hi mate, Another excellent vid. I am hooing someone on here could shed some light on the speakers used in all his cabinets. John Mayer Gear on Instagram said the 2x12 cab had EVM's and they weren't sure whats in the both 1x12 cabs. If anyone coukd help out that woukd be great
Yeah, night 1 at the forum 2019 is peak tone for CIR. Battle studies era is great tone. I love the Red Rocks voodoo chile performance. And, when he would use the cabronita tele he got a great tone that i wish he would've kept using.
Do you breakdown other artists loops? The one Tash Sultana uses in Jungle at triple j's live 2017 I am very curious about. I do love this series thank you.
Good point, it could be either a JBL D130F or E130. I remember reading before it was the upgraded JBL but would have to backtrack a source on that. Which also could have just been assuming
