I used to break and change strings frequently due to buying the absolute cheapest strings available and using the biggest and heaviest picks I could find (no idea why I did that). Now I go for quality strings and minimal picking (and mediums when I do) and haven't broke a string in like 24 years, and can't remember the last time I changed any.
Hi Anthony! I was trying to learn the line for the song and apparently its a bit different from what you are playing here? Am I deaf or are you changing parts in here ? Thanks :)
This just shows that great musicians can play anything they want to. This music crosses between jazz/funk/power trio rock/progressive/metal. No limits!
I can't believe this trio exists. Unbelievable musical intuition, ability and expression, with Holdsworths otherworldly harmony. What an absolute innovator and, quite frankly, genius (I word I rarely use). The world may never catch up to him.
Beautiful music and performance!! But I love more the recording of the same from Rome Italy: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YI3X1bxQZ5k.html
If you play roundwounds and you have strings that have been on for years, you just sound irreparably boomy and your strings are gross as heck. It's not remotely a flex. Flats on the other hand? Ehh. I have a four year old set of Thomastik on a Yamaha that I feel have only just got into Motown territory. The rounds vs flats thing is a whole world apart. Then theres ebery type of string inbetween that I haven't even tried yet. 😅
I tuned most of my basses - especially my Warwicks - 1 to 1 1/2 steps down, even when I'm not playing heavier genre. Something about the way the string tension interacts with the rest of the instrument produces this incredible tone. And I'm probably gonna catch hell for this... But I fully utilitze fret buzz/fretboard buzz(with fretless) when I play heavier genres.
I remember the story behind Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath when they recorded the song N.I.B. and the whole reason that bass line sounds the way it does, is because the strings on his guitar, which I believe was a Fender jazz bass, were old and almost to the point of being worn out but he couldn't afford new strings.
