The kiss was a reward, and it was pretty gross. I love the show for nostalgia reasons but I also don't believe in death of the author - a Nice Guy can't write women. Sorry not sorry.

@@sloanekuria3249 True, but there are female writers on the show. There are flaws in some of the writing later, including in the Spuffy stuff. But for a show from the 90s/early 2000s it is very progressive. Me and Rachel disagree on some of the Spike stuff later on but we both agree that the core statement of the show, a typical, blonde haired girl subverting the stereotype still works even all these years later.

@@RevisitingTheBuffyverse-yp3ey Like I said, I do love the show. There's less creep-driven media available today which really highlights how the Nice Guy stuff in BTVS falls extremely short (eg: Xander, from the beginning), but the little girl in the baseball game during the finale still gets me every time. Some good messaging despite the glaring flaws, I do agree with that, and the Whedonesque need to make everything a surprising reversal (or double reversal) is something I highly value in narrative fiction of all kinds. Not to mention the unambivalent centering of gay women - again, borderline male-gazey (AND the very tired "bring out your gays" trope) but unquestionably well-intentioned and better than just about anything else on network tv in the 90s.

Another thought on the Buffy/Dawn relationship and why Buffy is so harsh sometimes it that Dawn is possibly who Buffy would have been without the slayer calling... If Dawn is "made" from Buffy, but without being a slayer she is essentially living Buffy's life without the burden of responsibility that being The Slayer is (a major theme for the show). There are a lot of quirks and temperament things that are pretty similar between the sisters - a pragmatic intelligence, a macabre sense of humour and when Buffy is without her powers she is a lot more clumsy and awkward like Dawn is initially too. It just a thought, but one that has stuck with me and adds another layer of friction for the sisters on top of an already very relatable older/younger friction (as an older sibling I very much agree with what you are saying too)

IMHO, Restless is a bit low. I've never heard such a high ranking for Bewitched. And New Moon Rising is much lower than I expected. Your bottom 5 is pretty universal. Buffy has the best silent episode, the best dream sequence episode, the best _________ episode and the best __________ episode (which some consider the finest hour of television). You haven't got to the last two yet.

Thanks, for the feedback. This is a rewatch for us both. The season 5 reviews (in two different videos are now up, and some shorter themed vids like this. Chances are when I get to the end of the show the list could look very different.

I have to defend this episode. Take away the humor and the over the top aspects and this is critical to the next 3 seasons.The episode is important to the sexual/ violence part of the Slayer DNA that Faith first revealed. It shows and will give the evidence to the power that Buffy has that leads to obsession in the most powerful of demons/ vampires. With the need to seduce Buffy and have her as an equal in rule, this is the first validation of her power first shown in Becoming, Part 1 with Angel. This is the set up for Spike and his obsession with Buffy. We need Dracula so the actions of first Angel then Spike make sense. The start with Buffy hunting, like a lionesses, shows that Riley is not giving her the total satisfaction she requires. After being within Faith and having unbridled wax with Riley that grows a jungle, Buffy is no longer a little girl but becoming an understanding woman. Buffy was under the Master’s thrall and then bite and she became more powerful. Buffy does the same with Dracula but she adds his blood. Dracula makes the mistake of pride and ego because he does not understand her power. Dracula’s blood allows Buffy to tap into The First Slayers power( we see her image) and the need for action/violence with Buffy in full sprint after a demon. This addition of understanding her darkness with her moral clarity and the power of true forgiveness understood in I Only Have Eyes For You makes Buffy the total supernatural power force . Without more boring detail, this makes this season opener very important. An overlooked scene is in the fire at part when Buffy and Joyce are eating. Joyce tells Buffy the house will be lonely again when Buffy returns to school and lives on campus. Dawn has not arrived and this makes the timeline accurate in the beginning of Episode 5. A theory I can not verify is that the monks got Buffy’s blood from Dracula. Remember Buffy says the monks made Dawn out of me.? How? One theory is that Dawn appears after Dracula bites Buffy. When Glory and the monk are first talking, it’s in a foreign language. I’ve been told it’s the native language for Dracula . It’s a stretch but a few believe this and it adds the importance of the episode.

I don't disagree that its an important episode. I just don't rate it personally. Thanks for your thoughts.

Thank you for the excellent video on Willow in Season 4. This is an important season and it brings to the forefront the progression of Dark Willow that started in Becoming, Part 2. I thought my friends were off telling me that she was turning dark/ evil after Episode 19 in Season 3. ( I was the only boy that watched Buffy but it is how I learned to talk and become friends with the mystery that is a teen age girl ) It’s not just the witch power that has alerted D’ Offrwith? It’s the dark vengeance power within Willow that has been growing and she has been feeding foe the last 2 years. We see the first physical manifestation of Dark Willow in Something Blue and her first demonic ability to sense fellow evil powers. I’m glad you brought up Restless. Besides the illustration that Tara was keeping Willow in the light and away from her darkness, the sexual images dominant many of her dream sequences I think having Oz talking with Tara while looking at Willow was the highlight of Willows bi-sexuality. Having Xander tell his masturbation joke while Oz watches Willow walk away is another tip off. Willow is too proper to overtly ( and it’s television) have her in a sexual position with a male but the 2 boys she has feelings towards talking about sex makes sense. It was a year of change for the Scoobys and especially for Willow. It’s interesting that the introduction of a good soul , Tara, can temper the darkness growing within Willow. The emotional decency can slow evil but darkness only takes over after the Warrior/ Slayer is gone. A good Season and the first starting to define the sexual nature of Willow and Buffy. I’m glad you posted and look forward to more.

Looking back, writing him out as a character missed out on a very good opportunity to see exactly where that could've led. As dorky as he was and as dorky as The Initiative arc was, Riley made it tolerable.

Interesting, thanks. His one off episode in S6 was solid at least. I think The Initiative had promise, it just got a bit messy.

I'm with Keith on Nightmares. Also, I know Teacher's Pet is bad, I know it, but still it's a guilty pleasure of mine, it's soo cheesy and B horror movie, that I enjoy it. I Robot, You Jane is a bottom episode of Buffy for me. Ugh.
@thechosengirlreviews
@thechosengirlreviews Год назад
I've only seen the movie once, and it was okay. I like Swanson as this version of Buffy, but the writing and story are not good. And I'm with Keith I do not like that silly death scene. It's too much, even for this movie.

I also like the campy, cheesy horror elements of the first two seasons. I'm with Keith, I don't like Nightmares. I would give season 1 a 6/10 just because compared to the other seasons the quality isn't as good, and there's some really bad episodes. But I still enjoy season 1.
