@@2styks sweet. i was trying to figure out if was earlier. i personally know a copul epeople that were in the hockey band 1990-94 . but the michigan marching band/hocky and bball bands are the very best every year!
Love the atmosphere at Yost. Its very special. But I have to say, the real effect of "The Blues Brothers" is even more awesome at a football game when you get the entire band and about 35,000 students doing this. Its amazing. Love the solo at the end.
I agree. I was at the game and I thought DSU's band (and their entire team) displayed a lot of class and had fun. Granted they lost by a million and four points. But they had fun.
You can't just judge how good a band Michigan is just from this video. Any band can try to claim that they're better, but Michigan is the very 1st recipient of the Sudler Trophy, which recognizes the best college marching band in the country. You can only win the trophy once, and Michigan has the distinction of being the very first school awarded the Sudler Trophy. So whoever wins it first is the most highly regarded marching band.
@MrMIKETROJAN Definitely. I remember Blue's band making this entrance at the '04 and '07 Rose Bowls and being amazed that they can run in place, IMMEDIATELY stop, just as immediately raise their instruments to "ready" position and start playing. This must be the best-conditioned band in collegiate sports.
You know that part in middle of the field where they slow down and really high step, I caused that! They stopped high stepping, and I wrote the director at the time, an email about how it was their tradition, and they MUST HIGH STEP. The next home game, they added a slide, then a full stop, and then they came up with this about in 99 or 2000. See, just email and one person can make a difference! The alumni band members,STILL OUT MARCH THEM, they high step!
I was there for that game, and right next to the camera. It was the first day with my new camera, and I thought I was filming, but I didn't. That view really captured a good bit of what's it's like to be in the Big House, seeing that Block M move across the field playing the pregame Victors. WOW! The HAIL, HAIL parts still get to me! GO BLUE!
@jlaff0316 The parent was Jack Johnson's dad. Prior to him, it was a dance by the water buffalo, a guy that use to wear a blue hat with horns. You can see a clip of his dad on youtube. Jack left for the pro's quite early (third overall pick in Crosby's draft class), and the dance was kept alive after he left. As for the band moving closer to the students, that was due to the administrations inability to keep the students from yelling the "See Ya Chant", and tried to drown out the cheer.
This is cool, but I long for the old days when they had a drum cadence that they would do during the 3rd period of a blowout, and the conductor would have a dance solo.
