That twist villain trope you mentioned, I like it as long as it is not predictable. In some cases, it is, in others, it isn’t. But I agree, it is better when we know who the villain is up front, it builds tension a lot better as you mentioned. From everything I’ve seen, I think Death Note really hit the nail on the “We know who the bad guy is, but other characters don’t” and it made it interesting all the way through (although, personally I think it should’ve ended differently, I’d love to elaborate but I’d give massive spoilers if I did). And from what you mentioned here, it seems like that tension really built up! Glad to hear that!
That's my favorite arc too and how I love Jonouchi and Yugi are impressed by the figurines and the EVIL Bakura responds with "I'm a perfectionist.", we just seen he capture the soul of the teacher that also was so well made and you can only imagine this guy cackling to himself while he paints the figurines to look like the next victim! It's equal times hilarious and uncanny!
