So since yiu say they sont track whats being soent, do you max the "reimbursement" check so yiu get paid even though you may not have spent as much as you stated? Basiclaly just the first reimbursement checks are the hardest financially for yiu, after that its a constabt money flow right?

I felt what you said so deeply! We have 3 different couples in our life that adopted their first or second placement and it can be so frustrating! We are on our fourth and he will be leaving us soon. We will be opening up for our 5th and we are still hoping to adopt. I love your style and I’ve been thinking about starting a channel as well. There’s not enough of us out there on RU-vid 😊

Hello I’m also a foster parent and have been for 3 years now. Unfortunately where I live we are having trouble getting calls for the age range we are certified for. We are licensed for 2 and under and don’t get calls for that age hardly. It makes me sad I feel like I’m not helping much. They call me for older kids but my home is full with kids from ages 8 to 17 so we decided 2 and under was best for our home for now because that’s the age we have space for currently. We had a newborn placement for an about 2 weeks that went with family and then didn’t receive another call for almost a year and a half in our age range that was twin 8 month olds that we had for about a week before they went to family. It’s been 4 months since we had the twins with no calls for 2 and under at all. You inspire me though so much. I love watching your channel and seeing your updates. I hope to get a call soon for a baby or toddler up to age 2.

Hello, new here! Is there ever a chance that you foster one child thru the county and one thru an agency?
@JKLfam
@JKLfam 5 месяцев назад
Hi! So we can’t be licensed with the county and an agency, we have to choose one. However, the placements we have received have come from the county. So really we end up working closely with both our agency and the county. Ultimately the county is responsible for the child but our agency covers all the paperwork, visits, questions, etc… hope that makes sense!

If you have a good agency and good worker, hang on. You don't know how bad it can be ;)
@JKLfam
@JKLfam 5 месяцев назад
I hear you! I have heard so many bad experiences from others under their own county. However, I have gotten to know the workers in our county and a lot of my agency workers have made the jump to county as well! So it almost feels like I’m under just one giant umbrella of county and agency. I guess that’s a great thing because it is double the support. Maybe I stay until my worker goes. Hmm definitely something to ponder!!!

Interesting to hear someone say they’d rather go back to county than use agency. I usually hear the opposite 🤔I’m curious to hear from people who’ve done it. We are with an agency and I feel like I get more opportunities for placements since we can use other county’s other than the one we live in.
@JKLfam
@JKLfam 5 месяцев назад
Hmm, i feel like maybe where we live there is a greater selection of homes, therefore we don’t get too many calls for out of county kids. If we do, it’s usually for a sib set of 4+. Our county is really struggling with the fentanyl epidemic and the county has almost completely filled up all of their own homes. That is why they are beginning to take in new approved homes or allowing ones from agencies to switch over to them. Of course they would rather place within their own homes instead of payout to an agency i assume. But then again I am not involved in the business side of it all 😅.
@Gabsfinds

@@JKLfam interesting. I think I remember from old videos your in northern ca? We are in the east bay and have only gotten calls from a neighboring county. But your explanation about not having so many social worker visits, and as much paperwork definitely is an attractive to move towards the county! Well good luck in whatever you decide and I’ll pray that it will be the best thing for you guys! ☺️

As a foster mom and just going through my first grief from that first placement, I feel all the emotions! I also was planning on only doing foster to adopt but my licensing agency told us it will take longer, that we should start fostering. We always talked about helping out with fostering anyways so we went for it. Never in a million years did I thought my first placement was going to be a new born! She came to our home at only 10days old. We also had no babies and have been longing to be parents for a while now too. It almost seemed perfect and that this was meant to be. Everything in the situation aligned and I felt that with each passing month she was going to stay forever. At 9 month baby girl was moved to kinship care with paterna grandma who at first said would not be able to take her. This just happened last October and we are still healing. We never saw her again even when grandma said we would be able too. We wrote her an email after her last message telling us it was best if we didn’t see her and respected her wishes but told her we will always be here and available if she ever needed us or wanted to reach out and that was that. I’m currently in therapy and for now we are not taking new placements but we have been doing lots of Respite. We’ve had 8 little ones come to our home for respite care so far. I’ve even done some repeat respite so I get to see them more than just that one time since I keep a good relationship and contact with their foster parents. Most of them have been between 2-5 so they are old enough to understand and I want them to know that I’m here for them too even if they’ve only stayed for a week or just a weekend. It’s definitely helped me with my healing and staying involved. I’m not sure if I’m ready for another placement at this time and unfortunately DCS makes it very hard. We do love our licensing agency and their support throughout this. I’m glad you are back with your videos! Much love to each and every foster mom here!

My heart goes out to your heart ♥️. I have found over time that i feel differently with the toddlers vs the babies. I never had deep heartbreak letting go of the toddlers/elementary aged kids. It has always been the babies for me. Probably makes sense because i am longing for a baby and i guess the care you provide them is so different. Like they rely on you so much that they take a piece of you and then they are a piece of you, if that makes sense! And they do so much more growing in a limited amount of time that i think it affects us as well. Or maybe we are just truly baby people. I’m glad you havent given up though! And im glad you’re doing respite because that is something i never found to be my thing and yet i know how desperate families are for it!! Keep in touch!!

Some of my foster mom friends joke that we hang on to them til they are one and then they magically transition. No more formula. Table food. Sleeping through the night (mostly). Large part of teething done. Boom - family ready and able to care for them. This was a great video about emotions. I read a post from a woman who didn't have bio kids and didn't have a lot of experience with kids. She got a baby and thought the worker would come in and show them how to make a bottle etc. Not the 5 minute hand off. Made me think agencies should have additional optional training on stuff like that for people who want it- how to make a bottle, safe sleep reminders, car seat installation (have a CPST tech in training demonstrate how to install infant/toddler/booster. It would be less than 30 minutes!). It could be videos. Reminders about WIC. How many foster parents forget about that from training to placement and how much is formula???
@JKLfam
@JKLfam 5 месяцев назад
Ha! Yeah that is exactly how it goes! How nice 😅. I remember youtube-ing and googling sooo many things with my first couple babies. A lot of the training we had to do prior to being licensed was definitely trauma based info vs the basic necessities of children. However my county is offering a whole week of classes , a foster conference full of trainings and tomorrow i am taking the basic care of infants and toddlers class. Even though i probably don’t need to by now, i think it will be insightful and im glad they are offering it .

You are so awesome I found your channel when I started fostering and have been following ever since . It can be difficult finding people who understand so I appreciate you so much! We also had our first foster baby placed with bio family after 10 months it was a shock because there was no family for the first 9 months and a grandma came out of nowhere it was heart breaking. We had the chance to visit him at the bio family’s house 6 months after and he ran to us and cried frantically when we left it still breaks me. Two years later we got to adopt our son who came to us a few months after that experience and we are in the process of adopting our baby girl who came shortly after him. I know what it is to want to be a mom so badly and have the fear of it being ripped out of your grasp but keep faith and keep doing what your doing god has a plan and his timing is perfect. Thank you for doing this I hope other foster mommas find your channel!

I know you didn’t ask for advice lol but if you wanted to fight to keep them with you ( the bond between you and the kids is so established it could be detrimental to the kids to break it) I would recommend maybe getting a lawyer and or file a defacto parent status motion .
