I'll watch BUT I got to say I know a lot of professionals that won't like any digital anything added to analog equipment because of the way tech changes so much. I mean in ten years if the digital parts break where would you get parts for it? Personally, I haven't taken that step yet. I am all in the box and am getting a wicked tone for my style of music! Not sure but I been looking for some outboard gear for vocals and Bass Di. How much better would it actually sound if you get really good mixing without analog equipment?
You, my man, are a very very talented multi-instrumentalist, studio guy and a super cool dude! I can definitely say so, as I m a similar kind of guy (not discussing the level of musicianship here, coz everyone knows his own shit), But being a small studio owner myself, artist, composer, multi-instrumentalist, audio mixing/production dude, educator, music radio show host and a person with a Bmus (hons) degree @ London College of Music. YES, I feel a very credible person to say that... Alec you rule!!! My respect! keep on goin ..
This is simply wonderful. You need this mic. Or don't. Everything you do sounds fantastic. But this mic seems to work so well on everything and for your style... Just works. Neumann should give you a pair. ;)
@@alecbrits Thanks, I was of the impression it was usb 2 and not 3.0. I hope it won't be any slower latency wise than my uad arrow. Worst case I might aggregate the devices and use the Arrow as a master and monitor control for writing and mixing and the evo for tracking. :)
Ma man Alec. Whats the biggest sound difference between the 73 and this 81 preamp in your personal opinion? Im mostly tracking vocals with tube mics without eqing on the way into compressors. Did you also eq a lot on your vocal for this performance? I know there weren’t a lot of processing on the vocal but overall the vocal sounded like a record already. I need your personal thoughts on this since Im still hesitating between the neve73, and either the tt73 or ha73(which is made to clone of the vintage73 unit?) or this 81a 😂 Thank you !!!
Hey Daniel! :) I am pretty minimal with EQ’ing vocals on the way in generally. I think the tonally you won’t go wrong with any of the units you have mentioned. I personally liked the filter options on the 81a a lot. Remember, this is a 1073 style mic pre with a 1081 eq. The added frequency points and filtering really provided an extra layer of flexibility. I think the metering and insert points on the DPX are really useful, if you use analog compression during recording.
My attention diverted from focusing on the sonic character of the equipment to the song , really like the song. Where can I hear the full version ? your song reminds me a bit of a song called Worry by Little Commets
The pre button is for the insert on the rear. You can place a compressor/effect before or after the eq. :) I think the manual of the device describes how it works.
