This channel is dedicated to the TerraTrike Rover, a model that was discontinued by TerraTrike. It will go down as a Classic. I will be posting videos on upgrades to my Rover I8, and rides, along with a few other misc' videos. The Rover filled a much needed niche in the recumbent tadpole class trikes. Able to carry heavier persons and loads, and was reasonably priced, so it was a good starter trike for anyone wanting to try recumbents'. Its nonstandard square frame will always stand out among trikes, making it easily recognizable.
This channel is inspired by Tims Trike Trips. Tim did a wonderful job on his channel over in the UK (England). Thanks Tim!
Might help if you turn the bike around so light from the window is shining on the bike, instead of being backlit, or some artificial light light on a tripod. Very, very, nice video. Super informative
Good to see you and the Rover recovered from the crash. I was pleased to find a You Tuber from Michigan here. I was born and raised in Muskegon, moved to Iowa in 2000. Looking forward to watching your earlier videos.
I have a Terratrike Rover Tandem. My wife has MS and can not pedal. I just installed a hub motor with a freewheel 8 speed/ derailler and took off my i8. Bought all the components from EBO. I LOVE it!
Have new double-walled EVO wheels to go on my Rover. Glad there was a video of some sort to show the ins and outs. Trying to remember where I put the Marine grade grease for the axle. Wonder how difficult it is to replace the bearings on the hubs? No local bicycle shops here. Got new wheels from TerraTrike's Scratch and Dent section, and one wheel's bearings do not spin as freely as they should. Have a Tongsheng TSDZ2 installed, so am anxious to go for a ride.
Thank you for making this video. I had a lot of trouble removing the bottom bracket. The way I got it to move was by slowly pouring boiling water over it so the metal would expand
I put my phone in one of the side bags below the seat. I tried a solid mount up on one of the T accessory mounts, but the phone took too much jaring from the ride.. in the side bag pocket there is some cushion to it, and I use a blue tooth ear mic for it.
mm.. don't remember at the moment, I could go and measure them. Mine is mounted on the main spar of the TT Neck Rest, which I believe is a 1 inch tube. If you don't have that, the next best place is on the seat adjustment tube, which I think is 7/8 diameter. I think one or more of the videos does show it mounted, as its where the windsock is. I use that and the seat top holes for flags.
I tried to pull up one of your RU-vid videos of the past and it wouldn't allow me to. I want to know how many teeth you have on your front sprocket. My wife has a Rover and she wants me to add a motor. I added one to my Rambler this spring with a 46 tooth sprocket but wondering if that's to large for her Rover?
It is the bafang 42 tooth one, there are 3 you can choose. I live in hill country (this is my other YT acct), and 32 was just too small with the bafang. Keep in mind, the Bafang has high torque, so if u use the throttle, go easy when you start out or it can ruin your gears on the rear wheel. I have had no problems with mine, even going up hill in first gear with that 42th, using either Assist level 4 of 9 or using throttle.
2 things I did not like about this. The handgrips are too low to the front tires.. it came with presta valves. We are in Grand Rapids, Michigan, home of Terra Trike.. WHY they have dealers selling presta wheels I have NO idea.. Most places where you can air up a tire do not have the adaptors. It is just not a standard here. 350 watt Bosch motor, no throttle. Ok, he can live with that though. I still prefer my Bafang.
Thanks for your time and effort putting these videos together. I am ready to do the same thing that you have done already. Your tips will help me along the way. At first I didn’t know if I could use the eight speed transmission with the boost motor but you have proven to me that it’s possible. I don’t know why it’s so difficult to find details about this project but yours seems to be the most complete. I have a few questions for you about that locking bracket and the chain but I’ll have to think first.
Yeah, if you have a rover, you can add a mid drive to it, no matter what you have in back, I-8, E-8 (with a derailleur), or the Nuvinci drive. The key will be what front chain ring to get. If you have hills, i suggest a lower chain ring count. But you give up speed in the long run, which is why I got mine in the first place, for the hills. Now, with the bafang, depending on what one you get, (750 or 1000) remember, these things generate a TON of torque, which can damage the rear gears. So you need to take it easy if you use throttle. I do on the hills but I apply it slowly and smoothly. Never just DUMP it, (i.e. hit full throttle). The rover will take it if you just use a little common sense.
Actually my garage is large enough for me to work on the trike and keep my car in it.. my last place I lived had no garage. That is why I put the bafang install on, while it sat in my living room. Appreciate the offer though.
I have my tires at 50psi. I think they are supposed to be 40-60 for the 20x1.75 tires that came with it. I have Schwalbe Big Apple tires on another bike that might be a little cushier at 2 inches wide. I think Terratrike has a foam padded seat cover which might be a thing. I was looking for a more mesh seat cover for summer. I am still trying to get my motor install finalized. Luna sent me a battery that attaches with a strong magnet instead of the tray and locking key that a lot of people got. I tested it out and it was pretty good, but I have limited confidence that the battery will not fall off, or have someone walk away with it.
wow.. Hope Luna fixes that battery problem. I have the 52v 12Ah battery and want to get the 17ah battery this winter, and use the 12 as a backup. As for the seat, working on that. As for the tires.. Thinking of getting a set and trying them. May have to modify the fenders though.
yep, big dip, about 8 inches.. now that its all dried up, I rode thru it the other day and you can clearly see where the path sunk down.. I put in a repair request to the parks department.
As soon as that side walk is done, I will be taking a long ride up one of our local trails. In the mean time I will be adding more in the coming days. Been a while since I started this channel, and need to reset my mind on how to do the videos. You know what I mean. LOL. One step (ride) at a time. Now if I can just figure out how to get that video to flip around so you can read my hat properly , haha. - this is my other YT ID.
You and me both! Been difficult to get out lately with 90+ humidity levels. Hoping I can get out this week and do another.. This season is not turning out the way I had hoped. Only have 100 miles in, was hoping for something close to 500. And to do trail clips in series.. Such as WP part 1, CP to Belmont, then part 2 Belmont to Rockford, then part 3, Rockford to Cedar Springs.. that kind of thing.. Oh well.. one step at a time. Hoping you can get out and post some new stuff too.. Really enjoyed watching your videos.
Is this the torgue arm you bought? I have a TT Rover and I am planning the exact build you did....Thanks, Brian in Lancaster, PA www.utahtrikes.com/PROD-11620645.html
It's from utah trikes. Just tell them you need the Torque bracket for a Bafang motor that will fit a TT Rover frame (square). Or go here www.utahtrikes.com/PROD-11620818.html Incidentally I added a layer of rubber gasket under mine, and took off the bottle holder. Now I have room to add an accessory post, if I need it.
Hello from upstate NY. What bag is on the side of your seat? What mount system for the side bag? Outfitting a Rover Tandem using your hints, thank you for your Bafang videos!
If you mean the side bag, (square one) its a topeak front bag, using a mount obtained from T-cycle. Any front bar bag can be attached to that mount. I chose the Topeaks. Like anything else, they are not cheap. Here is the link to the video about the mount for the Rover, but they also have them for round framed trikes too. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uSrUSWWzpOk.html
Thanks Matt. That answered a lot more questions. Also found you on MRT page. Stay safe, stay well. If I ever make it to the west side maybe I will catch a ride with you.
Hi Mac. Hope everything has gone well with you for the rest of this year. Everything is supposed to better in 2021. I have a new 2017 Rover which for many reasons has less than 10 miles on it. It's in my LBS for now getting the Bosch system installed on it. I live on the east side from you and don't have as many trails to ride but it is also to cold for me to ride right now. I would like to know the real name of your "fire stick flasher" light as I think I would like to get one. I also like my Rover a lot and don't see very many of them around. To quote Roy Rogers, Happy Trails to you next year!
its called a firestik, Strobestik sts-1 if you can find them. I can post a pic to one of the FB groups, such as the TT owners group, if you want to see the package it came in.
as for riding, well, what little I was able to do in 2020, I had fun with the bafang, but was not able to get out enough to really give it a proper review. Here we are at the end of the year and the battery is still at 52.1 volts. My health has improved a little since then, and hopefully by spring I will be able to get out and get this thing going. So far we seem to be on track to hit that target.
This video appears to be two put together. I finished it and was looking for 10-12 and there isn't one. The next video is 11-12. Is one missing or is this two together?
Hey you are right.. Where is 10? its missing! I just called mac, hes going to upload it in a few. Ok I see the problem. There is a similar video thats parts of 10 in it, that is there, so when he uploaded 10 it did not take. W can fix that.
I came back to watch this again because I like the Topeak system i gotta say your breathing sounds better than it used to, I used to worry about you when I watched your vids☺ i hope things are goin well for you
Only temporary. Discovered we are still not at the bottom of what is the underlying cause of it all. Got CT scan this week, that might get us going in the right direction.
Lookin good Mac, I'm thrilled to say I ordered a Sunseeker electro tad from Utah Trikes on Thursday I should have it in early November. I got the 500 watt Bafang with 36 v 17 ah battery and the stock 7 speed drivetrain which I will be upgrading to the new Microshift Acolyte 8 speed as soon as they are available(supposed to be November) with Avid bb7 brakes adapted to work both sides with the right hand, and Marathon plus tires on all 3 corners
36v? sounds a little under powered. Then again, if it gets the job done, why not? Yeah I am still learning some of the stuff about these things. But I cannot wait for spring (again). 3rd time is a charm they say.. well, it had better or I might as well give up on all of this.
I didn't remember seeing those fenders before... now I know why. You've done a tidy install of the cables. Well done. I also have a loop of extra cable (annoying but not worth cutting It eh?) The battery will be just fine on the back rack. Hope you get it sorted easily.
Cycling is n expensive hobby, geting exactly what you want is even more expensive.i get you don't want to spend$80 for a simple hunk of metal, what eould it cost to move the auxiliary mount/headlight mount I say again... Rivnuts😊
You're right about the delays from China. I have another camera on order since Feb 1st. Contacted the company this week and they're now saying late March before they can hope to send it. 😮
@@keithguiste2659 the round tube under the seat is the frame mount for the side bags, and it comes with the T-cycle kit. that and the T bars that the side bags mount to.
