Easy until I got to the actual bulb which feels like it is glued in there. A little wrestling and busted knuckles and it’s out. Still way easier than the wheel well port
I had to use a long socket extension up through the wheel well and place it up above the connection to the bulb and pry down a little to where I felt it turn slightly. I then went back to the hood area and was able to use my right hand two fingers to twist it out. Putting it back in was a pain as well and I sure hope I was able to twist it tight because once again no way to get enough grip on it to feel it twist into place.
You don't need to unplug the ECU it will shift over far enough while still plugged in. 2016 limited needed to move the coolant reservoir first.Otherwise good info
Dealership estimated $225+. I just did this on my 2019 Grand Cherokee, literally only took 20 minutes, including watching the video. This was the best video on changing the headlight I found. Thanks so much for saving me $$$$.
Okay so mission accomplished but ir took me around 40 minutes. Passenger side advice: don't bother removing the cap in front of the wheel arch, it's pointless and a waste of time. Pull the tab on the ECU and pull it up and out of the way. If you want to make it easier unbolt the water expansion tank and move this out of the way too obviously don't disconnect any of the pipes!) Reach and feel for the cap, twist it off and remove it. Now this is what this guy doesn't explain very well: You'll feel the back of the silver box ( the existing bulb) ignore that feel slightly further inside, you'll feel flat plastic pieces. Use your right hand thumb and push this tab down. You'll need to quite forceful, you'll feel it click down.then with your right index finger under the tab, push the tab on the other side up. You'll feel the bulb come loose and you'll sigh with relief. But your not out of the woods. Pull the bulb towards you and feel for the connector. It's a Jeep so they don't give you much to play with, the cable is short. Get your replacement bulb and attach it to the connector. Then spend 10 minutes fishing around trying to get the bulb in place ( pushing the bulb in whilst trying to twist the tabs). Once you think it's in the correct place, put your index finger on top of the far side tab and push down and the other side with your thumb push the tab up. Check your lights are working and replace the cap, your ECU and expansion tank. Then with your thumbs cut to ribbons, don't forget to thank me. Remember it's not the bulb it's the tabs either side!
Used this for doing the passenger side and then came back when the drivers side went out. Both times I didn’t realize/forgot that there were two little knobs you have to release to get the bulb free. I have a 2019 GC Limited X for reference. Don’t know if that’s how it is on all other trims but once I got that it made things go smooth lol
@@mikerowand1183 I ended up having to go thru all the trouble of unplugging both batteries overnight and when I plugged them all the codes were gone but one P00FD- Engine. not happy about that P00FD- Engine I would avoid unplugging the PCU all together
Thanks for the help! Something not shown is you need to loosen the coupling on the air inlet pipe in order to remove it so you will need a flat head screw driver. Popping the whole filter housing out was also kind of hard, I really had to pull on it but it's been in there for 9 years now.
Great video - I need to do this for my daughter's 2019 GC and it appears unchanged in design. I am guessing that the first step to removing the large Air cleaner hose was loosening the hose clamp? I know I'm late to the party :)
Make sure you have H11 or the D3S. And anotherbtip after you connect the new bulb but before installing wipe the bulb with a alcohol pad. If not your bulb may burn out sooner.
