i have 8mm film my grandfather shot of the new fj holdens utes and sedans barrel racing around Milton showgrounds mid 50s......he lamented it was criminal what they do with these new cars today😂😂
Amazing what you can do with a thorough clean! I think most people give up too easily and go for reupholstering. You didn't show what you're doing about the padding under the vinyl on the back seat where it had rotted but I dare say you sorted it. This is going to be one beautiful FJ!
Good to see the FJ coming along. You're certainly not dropping your high standards. This is going to be one beautiful restoration. Maybe I'll catch it at a car show one day!
Coming along very nicely. But don't the little things take forever. I've been on the final stretch of my 63 beetle for what seems like an eternity. So thanks for sharing ✌️ Peace from Melbourne/Pakenham.
Hi Geoff. I've been greatly enjoying your series of videos. I've been waiting until I had time and now I've binge-watched the first 20 over the last couple of days. Not too many people want to share the gritty details of a restoration like this - they just want to show off the finished product but for me, it's all about the process. Love your attention to detail It's going to be a great FJ!
When I was about 4 years old, my mother would follow my dad's drill truck through outback Australia in an FX Holden with an 18-foot Franklin in tow, while looking after me and my 7-year-old sister. The license plate was NCC-600 (I still remember that).
the two speedos that you were using for parts are from the 48/215 notice there is no letter AC on the face and the colour of the face is a bit different to the one you have from your fj
the 2 other speedo's you have are early fx style the fj's all had the same speedo didn't matter if it was a special or standard they get stiff from the grease hardening and jamb then strip the side gears in them behind the face if they jamb they will break the cables
On my 63 bug I find it's the small detail items that take the time but they make the car. Yours is coming along nicely. Q. Who's tooth brush did you use on the glove box catch.🤔 ✌️ Peace from Melbourne 3810.
I've just stumbled across your channel your doing an awesome job. It just goes to show how much our older cars were hand made. ✌️ Peace from Melbourne 3810
@Geoff Dunstan I have a 1963 vw beetle that I've restored and it was the same so much done by hand. I'm collecting parts for my next project a 1967 split window kombi. ✌️
Great progress, amazing how good the original vinyl cleans up. So happy to see how much of the original materials you are going to keep which adds so much to the authenticity in the finish. Looking forward to the next video, happy Australia Day to you and your ultimate Aussie FJ!!!
Absolutely beautiful video and production, lived in cooma back in 1983, had family at threbo, Really enjoyed it👍 Happy New Year to you and your family and all the best for 2023😊 Cheers 🍺🍻KC Cradle Mountain Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺🤝🇦🇺😎👍
It didn't get the holiday in a hot acid tank bath but it's amazing what a couple of weeks in a tank of diesel and unleaded mix will do after an initial degrease. regards Geoff D
thanks, unfortunately I wasn't lucky with the floors, the car was VERY rusty, all the usual places A Pillars, sills, front floors etc! Purchase from carbuilder.com.au (I think they're Melbourne based). I'll check for you but I think I purchased either 6 or 7 packs, plenty to do the floor, firewall, doors and probably the boot as well. I've nearly finished the doors and still had about 1 and a half packs left. Will let you know how many I originally purchased. best regards Geoff
Checked back and I ordered 5 packs, still have one left, need a couple of sheets to finish the doors and would be enough left for the boot area. regards, Geoff
