With 10 multi-platinum albums and 16 Top 30 hits, Gramm first surfaced as the drummer with the band Black Sheep, assuming lead vocal duties prior to recording the group's self-titled 1975 Capitol debut. The recordings captured the attention of journeyman guitarist Mick Jones, and Jones soon tapped Gramm for his new group. Gramm's powerfully distinctive vocals were inescapable in the years to follow as Foreigner reeled off an impressive series of pop radio hits, including "Hot Blooded," "Double Vision," "Urgent," and "Waiting for a Girl Like You." The hits culminated in 1984's chart-topping power ballad "I Want to Know What Love Is," which became a number one hit. After rising to prominence as the frontman for the hard rock combo Foreigner, Lou mounted a successful solo career during the '80s, cracking the Top 10 in 1987 with the single "Midnight Blue" and repeating the process two years later with "Just Between You and Me."
I had his range and tone back then to sing this very demanding song he put forever on the map, I couldn't pull it off as convincingly these days, most singers headed to the hills when asked to sing it back then likewise...fantastic gift the man had and still in essence retains too!
At 74 being able to reach back that far and still attain the spirit and pitch essence of a song that not many could even dare perform it even back then is a phenomenal treat to share with those who were his age now and back then...the guy is a gem!
Thank you for your music and such a powerful voice that we grew up with. Best music Ever. Urgent is the song I do at Karaoke and what a challenge you give me to do it just. Such a hot song along with Midnight 🔵 Blue. Oh I jumped on that subscriber opportunity. Its my honor to be on it
Lou, supposedly, was against this song and didn't want to sing or record it, much less have it featured on a foreinger album.. Lou favored up tempo harder rocking songs, as was in the foreigner tradition.. This is at least in part why Lou left the band.. He was also upset Mick would not consider his songwriting efforts.. So, i've heard, in interviews of both Lou and Mick
Hi Lou! I'm happy to see you and to be the one, among the first thousand subscribers at ur channel. Looking forward for the 1 million soon. Greetings from Russia, the country that loves Foreigner since the beginning.
