I just found this video. Thank you for the straightforward tutorial. To the uploader and the commentators: What are your opinions on Primal Rage Midway Arcade Treasures Deluxe Edition on PC, the DVD version? And how does it compare to Midway Arcade Treasures 2 version?
MAT Deluxe on Windows is a reasonable port of the game, and one that I generally recommend. The game runs a few fps too fast, leading to recovering from some attacks too quickly. MAT 2 on console actually emulates the Japanese release. This is important because the inputs to most specials and finishers change. Strangely, the single player AI didn't get the memo, and they still attempt to use the inputs for the worldwide version. This means the AI very rarely will use specials and can be easily locked down from range.
I love Quake II 64's campaign with the remaster, the level design, no backtracking, items instantly activated, colors, it's a short campaign, which makes it playable a lot, like GoldenEye, I prefer this to 6/7 hours campaigns. I'ld be curious to see something similar for Turok 2, as the game has a ton of qualities but is very confusing at the same time.
Good take. I don't play mvc2 , but i use to watch it alot. I'm just scared that alot of new players will be discouraged by playing against veterans like Justin Wong early. I think the game has a high skill cap, but I honestly just bought it to support capcom in hopes of a marvel vs capcom 4 .
That seems to be the trouble with legacy games suddenly getting modern netcode. New players hop online expecting a casual fight and get annihilated. Very discouraging. I don't know what kind of legs the Vs. Series still has given the ever-complicated nature of IP rights these days, but I do think there's hope for more cross over games between franchises. Just dreamin for its own sake, it would be amazing if we could get all the major players (Capcom, SNK, Bandai, Arksys, etc) in the same room and make one massive game together.
Really good video. Learned a lot from this and I might have to update the guide sometime to mention the version differences. Funny enough, my experience with Sega Genesis Primal Rage made it very difficult to get good at the arcade version. I played the arcade first, but I didn't get better until I practiced the Genesis version.
I had a similar experience. I learned the Genesis port first, and since it has elements of both versions in there, I transitioned to the arcade reasonably well, albeit minus a lot of combo extensions from 2.3. Basically, I had it figured out just in time for no one to care. Primal Rage's moment in the sun had passed. Despite the drop in popularity, I made it my mission to put up a 1cc on every cab I could find.
I’ve finally found someone that knows how to play Primal Rage like we used to back in the day, lol… I miss this game so much. I went to EVO this year, and I was hoping to find a Primal Rage arcade machine there. Sadly, they did not have one. I wanted to see if I could still pull off all my Diablo, Talon, and Chaos combos. 😂 Nice video!
What can I say, not everyone has culture like we do. You can try arcade databases like aurcade.com to find one closer to home. My hometown has two of them weirdly enough, but none where I live now in a much larger city.
Thanks for hanging out! There are a lot of home ports, and they all have their gameplay quirks. Still, I generally recommend the Windows version of Midway Arcade Treasures, MS-DOS, or PS1: in that order.
You can break 7 million by intentionally losing one round against each CPU opponent. Make sure on the round you lose to do some big combos until the health bar on the CPU character is close to empty. Use to do it in the arcades back in the 90s.
Here's a huge combo for Armadon 2.3 version. I've pulled it off on the arcade version: Jumping High Fierce + Jumping High Power + (land and do a Tiger Jump straight up) Jumping High Quick (on the way up) + Jumping High Power (on the way down) + High Quick + High Quick + High Fierce + High Power + Rushing Uppercut + High Power + Hornication Uppercut.
Thanks for dropping in! The best I could manage with that method was 6.73M @ 16. Looks like you pulled together an 11-hitter. I know you can add a second normal jump forward, but the timing was a little too specific, so if a jump cancel works midscreen reliably, that might change things for the run 🤔
@@mysterygamefightclub5835 I'm planning on getting a SuperGun in the future. I already have a 2.3 Primal Rage arcade board. When I can get it up and running I'll record a demo of the combo and see if I can crack 7 mil again. I haven't played since the 1990s so I'll have a lot of rust. I also realize I needed to mention that this 11 hitter was against a dummy opponent Sauron in the corner. I've never pulled it off against an active opponent whether they were CPU or Human. I had to check my old notebook for the details.
My name is resident rump...and I'm a Wire Head... This game was and still is awesome! I don't feel it got the exposure it truly deserved. The gameplay, graphics and soundtrack were on point. Decades later I still play this game. It's one of the best mech-based games I've ever played 👍🏿
The Saturn core isn't finished yet so there can still be the odd issue. The audio could be due to the ram version that you have as you need 2.9 or above or you will have some audio issues. Glad you are enjoying it though.
I think you are a bit behind on MISTer developments .. the current Saturn core has fixed a lot of those sound issues and way more games work .. n64 has seen major improvements as well and there’s even a turbo core !! But yeah I enjoyed the video so much I subscribed ! Also nice combos in MK KI and PR
I've had a mister for 4 years now, the thing is amazing. There are a few things you may want to know, if you don't already. The framerate on the turok games is terrible because that's how it was on an actual N64. The core is very close to cycle accuracy now. Most emulators speed up the framerate which is great, but it's not a true 1 to 1. Also, there is a N64 turbo core you can try, seperate from the main core which lets the mister run N64 as fast as it can. This will get you some extra fps in those troublesome games.
To be technical, it's as done as Robert will ever get with it. There's still outstanding accuracy issues, but, as Robert put it, they're unresolvable. So, it's 99% there, which really is good enough in most cases for everyone.
Robert the developer has said that the core is actually running 5% to 10% faster than real hardware because of increased ram bandwidth of the DDR3. The mister FPGA discord is a great place to follow development of cores.
Could be. I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. Unless you happen to have the N64 cart on hand or specific knowledge of the game, it can be tough to judge when and where slowdowns occur authentically since most 3d games ran at a max of 15fps anyway. I used to own Cosmic Carnage on 32X, and that game was a mess. It truthfully did just run like molasses.
@@mysterygamefightclub5835 oh they do... especially turok 2 and 3. they actually run worse on a real n64 if anything. n64s turbo core fixes those issues mostly
Too bad you dont explain what the mister fpga does - hard to jump in for people like me who get this video recommended and lack overall context. No big deal as its easy to google, but thought I would share my 2 cents. Thanks for the video!
Appreciate the feedback, and thanks for dropping in! I figured what Mister is and does deserves a dedicated explainer, and I can transparently admit I am not the one to do it. All the best!
@@NinjaRunningWild true but he can't help himself, he keeps updating it with quality of life improvements. It won't ever run the 6 or 7 games with known issues properly though so that side of things wont be fixed (at least not on the de10nano platform).
@@deathbob091 Ohhh, thanks my man, i mean i wanted to get one but, the prices and availability for this device is, well, i think i'd have more chance finding a proper Mistress than this one :)
