Ray..
Despite being Bavarian (not Barbarian ;) I am devoted to the ole Wyer GT40 girl winning '68 and '69 with Rodriguez resp. Ickx at the helm ... still Porsche 917 to me is the untouchable icon of its time .. straight out of hell with a beautiful twinkle all around . be it in Kommerzienrätin Red, Psychedelic Martini or Gulf Wyer liveries 🌷:)
Honestly kind of upset the Porsche #20 didn't win. Jo Siffert drove that car to the limit and was over 10 laps ahead of the rest of the field before messing up a gear shift and taking the engine out of commission :(
1937 = 432 km/h: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernd_Rosemeyer Most impressive is that the Porsche 917 could also take turns, while having a high topspeed. Declassing all of the revolutoniary competitors, like Ferrari and even the mighty Ford GT40.
Superb documentary archive of the first of Porsche’s many overall wins. I was a Ferrari P and Ford GT40 matchbox toy cars devotee at the time. I had Porsche’s too but knew very little about them until the mid 70s when their legend resumed play and I had grown into a modelling enthusiast and obsessed about but could not afford the Martini 935 and 936 Tamiya model kits.
I thought Nils Holgerson was just flying geese from Sweden and over Scandinavia. It's great to know he also drives the fabulous 971, nice job from Pierre France
The turbocharger attached to the GT2 is bigger than the compliment of the Turbo, you have 620NM torque between 3000 and 4500 RPM. Röhrl's conclusion: Get in and have a nice time! (it's his company car) 8-) He remarks, that Porsche's most sporty car was the GT1 (only 25 pieces), but the GT2 comes close. The only alternative is the GT3 - it's still more puristic, but has less power.
The main important remarks: Compared to the Turbo the GT2 has less weight and more downforce, uses RWD, is better cooled, but fitted with all important safety installations. The car conforms to a racecar, the slip differential is an important part, 40% at throttle, 60% at coast. The brakes will delight every car enthusiast. But there is still some suitability for daily use. To accelerate from 0 to 300 and break down to zero you will need under one minute.
uhm, this is about real cars and real tracks and not a computer game... Sorry but it's just completely wrong what you said. A race car driver needs to be confident with his car and the setup, otherwise he will never be fast! Watch Walter driving the Pikes Peak and how he describes this beast of a car from Audi. Walter was extremely happy with this driving style. And then watch Alesi when he moved from Ferrari to Benetton and had to drive the car Schumacher developed. It ended Jeans' F1 career
Until Sport Auto has tested it, the 7:29 second time is not official imho. Not even Röhrls times are. Sport Auto (Horst von Saurma) is considered the official timesetter on the Nordschleife.
Nissan have been making their car on the ring, Walter have tested it a fair amount of times, and he said in Top Gear mag that he did that time also with traffic and had to pass 8-9 cars, so nevermind the edited videos. It smokes the GT-R with that many tries as they have had I'm sure.
