OVERALL SCORE - 8.5/10 INSTRUMENTATION - 8 Your usage of both the 2A04 and the N163 was very calculated and purposeful, no sound felt too out of place and the mix between using DPCM and the noise channel for percussion was a wise choice. Main complaints would stem from a little bit of overcrowding in some areas, most prominently the triangle drones and the slight over-usage of duty cycles and second voices being used for a delay/echo effect. COMPOSITION - 9 This is a wonderful more expansive take on the original Type B song that first made its debut on the Gameboy. This song begins with a delightful fake out mimicking the originals intro before bringing it into a rich full sound. The added details such as drum fills and extra bars do wonders, as does the unexpected key change at 0:12. The percussion is much more full than the original due to the more expansive soundchips and its abilities. However, the expansive and rich sound of this song works against it a little with the end of the song being a tad anticlimactic as there is no proper buildup for what should be the hard hitting finale of the song. Despite this, it still manages to capture the heart and essence of the original Type B in a most delightful way. CREATIVITY - 8 As mentioned prior, with the original Type B, it had to be quite minimalistic due to the APU soundchip of the GameBoy. With this cover, you have taken creative liberty and expanded upon the song with your own twist. The key change, the new full percussion, the twisting pulse channels, it all works together to create something that I can consider enough to be different from the original versions. One thing I would’ve loved to see is an original section or bridge, something that would give you the chance to deviate from the original while expanding on it in an unprecedented manner. Despite the lack of risk taking, what has been added does more than enough in sufficing for a good listen. GENERAL COMMENTS: I always love to see fellow Type B-heads. This was a fantastic cover and I hope you continue to make more. SPLURGY APPROVED!
