I’m a 1969 Vietnam Veteran🪖 I am one of the lucky Huey M-60 Door Gunners who survived & made it home. The Wop Wop Wop of the Huey helicopter blades was the song of my youth. Those Hueys were either taking us into hell, or bringing us out of it, sometimes the deck was so covered in blood that we’d have to land in a shallow river just to wash it out. As a combat veteran, I can tell you from experience, there is nothing glorious about war. 🎖💜♠️🪖🇺🇸
My Great Uncle was a door gunner in the HAL-3 Sea Wolf squadron and he also made it home. Thank you for your service. It’s truly unfortunate that war is a part of our world.
@@thatderangedbunny In some cases an helmet can save you. For example if the helicopter makes an hard landing and turn over...And the crew has helmet !!
My medic and I sat on the floor behind the AC and PP. That way the wind didn't beat the shit out of us all the time. Lots different flying as a crewmember. Wore a helmet and didn't have to listen to all the moving parts that we knew were all going to go to hell in a couple of minutes.
Thank you for sharing this without music or flashy editing. It’s one of the best huey ride videos imo because of this, plus the door position. Perspective so good I can almost feel the climb at 1:47 in my stomach. It’s got some getup! Great video
It was indeed awesome. If you can find a place to take a ride like this, I highly recommend taking the opportunity to experience it. I loved every moment of it.
P-51, F-14A (with TF-30s), on the ball on final, landing on a carrier, and of course, the UH-1H are the most iconic sounds in aviation. -Change my mind.
That's exactly the song which began playing in my mind when the bird went skids up! Then "Paint It Black" by Rolling Stones! Ahh, those were the days...!
Flew in Huey 369 one of our old ships a couple of times in the last 5 years. I have about 600 hours as a GIB of a Dustoff Huey, scared shitlless all the time but it was the best job I ever had.
Indeed. And if you have a good sound system, I highly recommend cranking the bass and maxing the volume to enjoy it even more. That’s what I do in my truck 😁
