Hey justin, this was a low transition out from the ridge and back on to the ridge, not recommended. I've only done tandem HG, and liked it. having said that, it is really nice to pack your wing in a backpack and travel anywhere with a normal car that doesn't need special considerations to carry an HG. we do trips every year to various comps, south/central America, or EU and just carry our gear. eitherway you will learn about thermals and fundamentals of both sports. with a PG, if you push it and end up in a tree 99% you just hang in the tree and not fall through because of the nature of the wing. happy flying...
yea the 32x speed up make it hard to watch the flight, but it is great for seeing the cloud shadows and how the clouds developed. this was a particularly special because 1) all the cloud worked 100% of the time even shortly after the clouds disappeared, and 2) there were cloud streets with invisible clouds that formed once the thermal got stronger.
4:00 thats interesting, because I thought the whole purpose of the B/C-bridge was to not create camber in the wing. It should engage the Bs automatically when pulling the Cs right? Otherwise it would kind of defeat the purpose, no?
If a bc bridge pulls the B at 50% the distance between A and B need to be exactly the same distance apart as between B and C. Then you have to engage the B the very moment you pull C.
This is brilliant. In terms of crevats, I've often wondered if a type of net fitted around the outside of the top 500mm or so, of the lines at the tip, would help. Obviously it needs to be super light weight, like fishing nylon, to minimize drag.
@@paraglidingSafety thanks for this. Good to see how aggressive the pump is and also a case where he had half the wind beginning to go/stall to clear it.
This run is known as Dumb Chute, aptly named because a mellow meadow above funnels all traffic (much of it unsuspecting) into this chute creating a sucker run. The choke up top can be as tight as 130cm in low snow years (like when this was obviously filmed) and always gets scraped clean (as you can see) but once you are through the crux it's a delightful descent. It is located "Looker's Right" of the Supreme Chair just as it starts to climb in earnest. These guys did pretty well considering they skied it in about the worst conditions.
I ski Alta everyday and I have a hard time placing that location. I'm thinking it must be that little band of cliffs over by Sunnyside called Vail ridge which virtually no one goes to since it's just 100 feet or so of skiing.
I would like to come down to recreate the flyght locations with some of the Orlando team. I am originaly from Ceiba Purto Rico. Drop me an email to chat.
this place was about 40 min or so from Breckenridge. it was one of the closer places at the time I could find where they would rent ATV's for a few hours. If I'm not mistaking it was h t t p : / / novaguides . com they gave us a map to follow but we made a different turn and went up as far as we could. if I recall correctly, we went right from the rental place, went for a little while, and then when we saw a branch to our left with a snowmobile sign on it. hope this helps.
Vail 09, 5 solid days of skiing and snowboarding! :) btw, thanks to the free Deshaker plugin for (free) VirtualDub, motion is significantly smoother. I highly recommend it for any hand held recordings!
