I was was interested in the episode, M and GN across Norfolk. Rob Bell said railways came late to Norfolk - wrong. The first railways in Norfolk date from 1843- 50. Rob an engineer claims most of the M&GN route in Norfolk run's through level country- wrong. There are 6 1:80 gradients 6 1:90 and about 50 1: 100, with many cutting's and embankments. A banking engine was required to assist heavy trains on the long 1: 100 gradient west of Melton Constable. The only part of the M& GN in use today is from Cromer to Sheringham and the North Norfolk Railway from Sheringham to Holt, both sections have deep cutting's and high embankments with a 1: 80 gradient on the North Norfolk Railway.
