We were seated up front in the pit tables. I have to say these fellas rocked it. I wish the rest of the set was on this video. I actually met one of the guys at the bar and didn't even know he was a part of the band until they hit the stage. Also went to buy a shirt and the drummer's wife was there. These folks are down to earth, have a good time with everyone and play awesome music. Ya'll need to start streaming your music online. Good stuff!!
Thank you for this great comment! We will be streaming online content with the band real soon. We are in the testing phase now, but the channel will be @fouronthefloor8091. There are a couple of videos on there now, but much more to come! Hope to see you out there soon!
Don't get me wrong. I am not criticizing. It's just that some choices made me scratch my head. My conclusion was that most probably, you have used whatever parts you have had at home. Some parts are best possible, and the others are reasonable, and some are questionable. Like resistors. Sure, everyone uses different types of resistors at different places, but choice where to use what type is made my OCD spike. Like metal film on plate resistors and carbon film as nodal resistors and then few random carbon composition resistors? Like TAD first filter cap, but then I can't tell what the two are next once. Then relatively expensive Jupiter in the biasing circuit. Mallory 150 series caps sound and performs well and are priced good as well. Benton tube sockets are the same. Good performance fir not yhat much money. Overall, it's not bad, but it's confusing for me. BTW, there are power transformers that are just taller and fit perfectly in 5E3 Chassis and are meant for upgrading 5E3 to two 6L6GC tubes. I would go with metal oxide nodal resistors and possibly keep the rest of the resistors on the eylet board as the carbon composition resistors. Or carbon film. Or as third choice metal film resistors. Carbon composition resistors give that vintage vide as plate resistors on the preamp tubes. They are a bit finicky and more noisy but have that vintage tone. Everywhere where it gets hot or resistors are stepping down the B+, it's hard to beat metal oxide stability and durability. Having metal oxide screen resistors is a great choice while they are on the sockets and get hot but provide just positive voltage to screens. Metal film grid stoppers are also good choice there on the sockets of the output tubes. Someone might argue they sound different. The option is to relocate them and use "better sounding type" on wire leading to the sockets. So my conclusion was you have had parts on hands and used vest you had to build as nice of the amplifier you could with that.
Beautiful tones! Has that classic black panel semi-scooped midrange that gives guitars such good sound. I wouldn't mind knowing more details about the recording (what guitar? what brand of speakers in the 2-12 cab, etc...) but I got the main idea. I happen to have a 70s era silver panel Champ, but if I ever need vibrato or that black panel tone, I'm going to Mojotone!
Thank you so much! I was using a 90's American Standard Telecaster. I did use a 2x10 cabinet with Celestion Gold alnico speakers. I really think Mojotone did well with this parts kit. I did have an issue with Negative Feedback that really set me back (high pitched oscillation). I changed the 2.7K NFB resistor to 10K and the oscillation went away. Otherwise, this was a simple, weekend project with great results...I think.
Friends, Guitarists , rocknrollers check your power cord and make shure your " Vintage" valve amp is properly grounded, 3 wire plug and power cord fer Petes sake. Nice little amp, you lucky so and so
Unless it's nonstandard or had the logo added later, 1964 would have no fender logo on the grill. I actually have an early 1965 here with no logo. Sweet amps! They take an overdrive extremely well for full rock and roll mode at reasonable volume.
Well spotted, I wonder if some-one atleast putva 3 prong power cord and plug on it, otherwise that "lovely" vintage amp will become""That fuggin death trap" amp.
It would also likely say "Fender Elec Instruments" instead of Musical Instruments until sometime in 65 if I'm right.... Regardless, the Champ/VC were the least changed amps through the entire BF/SF eras so I guess what does it matter 😁
Yes, that’s absolutely right. Thanks for pointing that out. I went ahead and changed the title. It’s also got the Fender Musical Instrument logo. This was a fantastic amp to work on. I liked it so much, I went out and built one for myself!
I have eaten there MANY times! The place was always packed! It's off Interstate 49, East Side in Louisiana, just South of Alexandria LA. I never knew he was on the tonight show. We loved him and his Restaurant! We are from Baton Rouge and past his place on almost every trip we took to NW Louisiana. I wish we could print pictures, I certainly would post one. Thanks for the memories Lea Johnson!
Johnny was such a class act to have fine, salt-of-the-earth people like Lea Johnson on his show. You can see how he treats Lea with a perfect mix of respect and wisecracking in order to help bring out the best of his wonderful personality. He was sincere about promoting everyday people. I live in Baton Rouge and have always enjoyed stopping by Lea's... now every time I stop by I think of Johnny teasing Lea and Lea coming back with an "I declare!" Timeless treasure!
I live in Gonzales, Louisiana. I went for lunch at Lee's Lunchroom when I went to a certification class at LSU'S Alexandria campus. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, not to mention the food was great. I wish I could have met Mr. Johnson. My cousin served in the Navy with Johnny Carson. I wish I had made arrangements so my cousin could see the show in person. Thank you for sharing this information.
Hi bud I’ve got a blackstar ht club 40 mk 1 and really considering changing out the stick speaker the celestion 70/80 Could you possibly tell me which speaker you have in this? A vintage 30 but is it a certain one? Also are the tubes stock Regards matt
Goodnight! Which v30 speaker are you using? made in China or made in UK? I want to change the speakers of my Blackstar ht 60 2x12 to two V30's. I liked the sound of your sound. Thank you!
@@rhaulvictor9288 I think the creamback's just has too much bass. On the clean channel more than the Drive. I imagine the V30 or Greenback might be a better choice.
Many thanks for the reply! there are few examples of Balckstar HT using other speakers. what exists is just the 70/80 or the V30... I wanted to hear it with an H creamback to know how it sounds. But your opinion helped me a lot!
The earth, for example, could not have just created itself. It has to have been formed by a creator. Take a building for instance: How can I know that the building has a "builder"? I can know just by the simple fact that the building is there. It could not have just built itself up by itself. The same standard applies to the earth and the rest of creation.
