Amazing video, please make more! Would be cool to have one for the other Haldex gens especially some Gen 5 stuff but also the older ones. Always nice with videos like this, glad you decided to make one.
Hi Matt. Once again excellent video, i note you used new plates but can the originals be used if in good condition, am i correct in my thinking if myself or any other owner need to service the Haldex like this that you do offer that service, thank you Steve Arctic.
Hi Matt. Thank you for sharing this video with us, i have a spare gen 4 in the shed and also three gen 3 Haldex, i have take the gen 3 apart completely before but never the gen 4 which i will do now, Ho and by theway my scrabble fix is still working after 12 months cheers Steve.
I have a 2009 FL2 that seems to randomly lose power / drive when accelerating from cold. seems okay when it's warmed up a bit, could this be a fault with the Haldex unit or does it just need a service?
I have changed the haldex filter in 2 VW Tiguan's that I own. Both time I spent ages trying to fit the white nylon bush to no avail! Even tried to use a G clap to force it in. But it wouldn't fit! I ended up refitting the old nylon bung in each case. Now I know why!!!!!! Both cars are 14 years old now and destined to be traded in but in future I will remember to order the genuine parts!
Ours stolen from south London maybe a week ago. Failed MOT. Messed with our plans completely during the summer holidays. Would love to have more intel about whoever is doing this.
Very sad to learn this (even if I don't have a Haldex fitted car. It seems anything that's fitted on the bottom of the car, if not secured, could be nicked (just like a cat)
Do you know if all Haldex 5 cars do the min max cycle after the initial run? I have a 2018 Audi RS3 - 0CQ, it does to the first slow ramp part and all values are good, but it doesn't do the fast ramps afterwards. Is this normal or is there a problem? I don't think my haldex is working.
Thankyou an excellent video tutorial. I have learnt so much. From experience I have learnt that Britparts are truly rubbish so its going to be genuine Borg Warner from now on.
Hi Mat. Is it possible to get some sort of cleaner into the accumulator by soaking / spraying judiciously in one of the galleys and position the unit to soak both sides of the piston removing the possible gunk build up? Or Would it be possible to force the accumulator to exercise pushing a cleaner instead of oil to do like a flush on the bench without damaging the pump etc. then drain, flush with oil and then reassemble and fill properly? I’m not juddering but wish to pull down my Haldex and just give it a full once over and prevent / eliminate anything preventatively as it’s never been serviced and is at 60k now and I’m getting a hear whining sound from somewhere so going to go through all fluids and services first. Thank you for an excellent informative video.
mine does scrabble a bit but not bad will it do damage if i keep driving or is it just a bit annoying and keep using it? 4wd works fine thanks for this video
A full breakdown of the diagnostic stages (with solutions) can be found here: www.haldexrepairs.co.uk/land-rover-freelander-2-fl2-range-rover-evoque-haldex-fault-finding-problems-solutions/
Hello! watched your video! thank you very informative. I have a Freelander 2 2008 Haldex 4 and I can’t fix my Haldex, the pump works constantly and blocks the rear wheels when turning, it works for 5-10 minutes and error P0961-62 pops up for the valve. Could this mean that the accumulator piston is jammed and is not releasing pressure? I disassembled the clutch and washed it, changed the filter, installed the original Volvo, changed the electric valve, checked the microcircuit, changed the oil again. Can the pump constantly pump into the electric valve due to a jammed accumulator? thank you for your work 🤝
I get the same RRE juddering when turning / full lock. But once vehicle has warmed temp the juddering goes away (perhaps oil warms or system flows freely). Does Haldex need a clean, service and oil change? Thanks
Hi , brilliant video . I've a 2014 Metropolis that has an issue when setting off on low friction surfaces, with TR in road mode if accelerate on mud or snow I get a vibration and noise from the rear. It sounds like a metal on metal as if the clutch pack is dry. It had a new valve solenoid filter and oil last year. I've also noticed a slight vibration at around 40 mph. It fine when driving in tight turns on a gravel surface. Have you come across this before?
I too have this issue but only from cold and on lock with decent load on it. If I accelerate more gently no noise. Stripped and cleaned twice and still have it from cold only.
Hiya, took a diff off my old xc90 2008 and put it on my 2009, not knowing that the 2008 is a gen 3 Haldex and the 2009 a gen 4. Going ok, however vibration at 70 mph at 2000 revs! The question is can I take the Gen 4 Haldex coupling off its diff and put it on the other diff of which had the gen 3 haldex on without any issue in terms of the internal compatibility? Cheers
Coupling will swap fine between diffs, they are the same diff. BUT gen 3 ECU must run gen3 couping, and Gen 4 ECU must run gen 4 coupling. Cannot swap ecus on the wrong coupling.
That’s great thanks and understood! I never touched or swapped the couplings in the end, so the diff off of the 2008 XC which is now on the 2009 has the Gen 3 diff/haldex and its own/original ECU… No lights came up on dash whatsoever, so I’m hoping the vibration at 70MPH at 2000 revs or when car is under load is unrelated to the job I did here! I suppose the car’s ECU has accepted the GEN 3 instead of the original GEN 4 as there’s no dashboard lights, but concerned if the transmission has accepted it too? In layman terms! On the contrary, I would like to send the original Gen 4 Diff/Haldex to get it overhauled, in case this diff in situ ever pack’s up! Do you have a firm or do it yourself or can you recommend anyone? Cheers & thanks for help!
May you advise that as you have confirmed that the actual diffs are the same as stated above, could there be a difference in ratio set up within the two diffs? I have vibration when under load, especially at 70 mph and at 2000 revs.. so I cannot help thinking that this is the issue? Cheers ..
100% they do not. No Gen 4 filter comes with a spring. Only Gen 2 and 3 come with a spring. You are probably being sold a copy filter under the pretence it is a proper one.
For example, if you google the Volvo part number 31325173 and look at the images, all ones in volvo branded bags do not have a spring. Like wise if you find any photos of a Genuine ford branded 1673828 part that has no spring, and lastly Land Rover genuine branded boxed ones LR032298..... 100% if it has a spring in a Gen 4 Haldex filter it is a china copy part.
An excellent video, having only recently bought a Haldex 4 equipped Volvo I figured I would service the coupling before it misbehaves. Not a bad price at all for the service kit on your website.
Do you mind checking my test? a Bit diferent from yours,. but pump is not new. it reaches the 13amp fairly quickly. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hXHKcDRKvp4.html
